Pirate 1974-1975 Greenland Higk Sckool Qveenland, Arkansas Gditor Qenevieve Dolan Advisor Linda Butler Business Manager Donna Rock Pkotograpkers Skeila Alderson Dennis Caudle Pam Holmes Mike Nimmo erry OsSorn Dedication We dedicate this book to one whom we consider a dedicated teacher. He has given more than any- one would expect of him. So for “services rendered beyond the call of duty,” the 1974-75 PIRATE LOG staff dedicates this annual to Mr. Jed Clay brook. After school at games, he supports the team. In school he keeps ahead of his students. 3oreword A log is a record. The 1974-75 PIRATE LOG is a record of Memories, its theme. We have tried to include future memories of kin- dergarteners and what will be the past memo- ries of seniors. Seniors wonder how they could ever have been a small kindergartener. It seems an eternity to a kindergartener before he can be a senior. The PIRATE LOG will not let you lose these memories. A difficult, almost impossible task, for the years we spend in school will be remembered with more regret and satisfaction, sadness and happiness, than we realize. This musical melodrama was a delightful change for Greenland. It was directed by Mr. Jed Claybrook and the musical direction was provided by Mr. Eddie Hardister. Pro- ceeds from the play were to help ease the cost of production of the junior and senior high plays this spring. Two perform- ances were given on the 12th and 14th of December. This year was a very busy and excit- ing one for the Greenland Marching Band. With new uniforms and new songs, the band blossomed into a bright rose of music. Its talent was not only in its music, however. The band showed skill in its marching formations, too. Many hard hours were spent by the band director, Eddie Hardister, and the band members in preparation for their half time enter- tainment. The.pride and school spirit with which the band conducted itself this year, was outstanding in every way and next year promises more. Marching practice paid off Friday night. All Greenland students appreciate the hard work the librarians do, organizing the books into a workable system of resources. Supervised by Mrs. Penn, each of the librarians learns to arrange the books, check out books and be of assistance to any student who needs help. We sometimes tend to take advantage of the hours of labor that go into keeping the library in operating order. Whether we realize it or not, the library is a vital part of Greenland High School and without it millions of themes would never be written. Mrs. Penn perfects her educational bulletin board. Lou Ann Martin and Elaina Bradshaw discuss the problems the day has presented. 77 Greenland’s Optimistic Organisers Joanne Cole, Gcnny Dolan and Mrs. Butler, discuss an upcoming dead- line date. Memories The Journalism class contains both the annual and the paper staffs. Dedication, hard work, and writing ability are a few of the characteristics of the members of this years Jour- nalism class. Hours of preparation went into this years annual and paper. The heartbreak of defeat was frequent. Through all the events our athletes displayed team unity and a desire to work and win. Our sportsman- ship was a model of discipline for all teams. I n the game of life these attributes will carry the young people of Green- land to unparalleled goals in the awaiting years. I deemed it a privilege to coach the Seniors of ’75. Their performance in football was a never dying effort to do better. The Jr. High team won the district with a 5-4-1 record; which speaks admirably of their performance. The basketball season was 105 games of concentrated effort with a few rewards. Victories were precious and hard fought. The Sr. Girls were impressive with their victory over Cedarville in the District Tournament semi-finals. Their Fourth place finish was a just reward. All our athletes are to be respected and congratulated for their dedication, desire, and spirit in the field of ath- letics. Coach Beckham Coacfi Jennings ATHLETICS AND LIFE Athletics and life, two things that seem totally differ- ent but uncommonly similar. The same ingredients are necessary for a happy life or a winning athletic program. These ingredients come forth as a philosophy of life and a game plan for athletics. As for my philosophy or game plan, it will start with a rigid training program to prepare in both cases mind and body for the event, using only those things that will aid you in winning. Through this rigid training program you need to acquire patience, patience to follow our philosophy (or game plan). If you believe in it in the heat of battle, you will not try new and untried things. Desire is an ingredient that sometimes strikes me as being the most important. Without this ingredient in great amounts, wanting to be happy (or to win) can not be achieved. Finally, our emotions, are very important, for if we let our emotions command the game (or life) rather than our reason, we will not function effectively.
