This year the team won the regional in written and practical competition. They went on to Indian- apolis for the national competition. A seemingly minor, but intregral part, a spring in the carburetor, was left out dis- qualifying them and keeping them from finishing first nation- ally. An interesting point is that on the written test they finished first. Being three points lower than the largest post- secondary team, which wag made up of college and technical students. Mike Green had the highest individual scoring in this field of competition, 41 42 IThS ACADEMIC Ursuline Academy 95 01-18 435 Eastern HS 195 Villa Madonna 100 61-15 260 St. Xavier 230 GHS 235 Indian Hill 390 Walnut Hills 195 For the third year since its beginning the GHS It's Academic team brought its distinction to the school, After the over whelming first win against Ursuline Academy and Eastern HS, the 61-18 team went on to win the second round by thirty points. How- ever, in the semifinals match against Indian Hill and Walnut Hills, the team was defeated by a narrow margin. This year's team was coached by Miss Sharene Schmalz and the alternate player was Patti Yeung. The sky was blue as the band played. The theme was Dr, Zhivago when Mary Beth Beuhler and Kevin Kerin received their royal titles inside the traditional heart form of a marching band, and the float from the GHS class of 71 most ex- emplified the theme of Magic and was proclaimed the winner in the Float contest, Good feeling swept both sides with a final socre of 6-6, The day concluded with the Homecoming Dance. Last year's queen Leann Sellars congratulates Mary Beth. ISI SADIE HAWKINS On a bleak November 14, the Junior class spon- sored the traditional Sadie Hawkins Dance. Although the poor weather prohibited the usual afternoon pic- nic, a large crowd attended the dance. Scattered straw, red checked tablecloths, and old-fashioned moonshine jugs, transformed the cafeteria into a typical country setting. While the Reverends David Slomer and Randy Demaline officiated the nuptial ceremonies, couples grooved to the electric sounds of the Insex. From Greenhills, Bev Harbaum and Rob Ellis won the competition for the most authentic down homers with their matching outfits. Sandy Cadwallader and Eddie Dale took the honors from Forest Park. At the strike of 12, newly wedded couples headed back to the hills; their marriages annulled. The day before, Mr. Wimmer led the band in Christmas carols around the cam- pus taking good cheer to students and faculty before the vacation. 157 CHRISTMAS DANCE 155 Soft lights, red velvet, and crepe set the mood for Student Council's 1970 Christmas Dance. Although several couples danced to the sounds of Beechwood Farm, the spark did not ignite into fire. The band, an ex- cellent rock and blues group, proved to be too raucous for the occasion .
