DEDICATIO : RHEA WOLFRA College counseling is important for any school, and particularly for Greenhill. In 1972, Rhea Wolfram became Greenhill's part-time counselor. Since then, she has spent many hours with students and college representatives. She is respected throughout the country and has done much to augment Greenhill's reputation as an academic institution of high quality. Mrs. Wolfrarn's success comes from her ability to communicate and work with people. She is always cheerful, with a smile and a kind word for anyone who approaches her. She takes time to get to know the students and lends a personal touch to her counseling. She is much loved at Greenhill. The senior class is proud to dedicate the 1978 edition of the Cavalcade to Rhea Wolfram. CHARACTERIZATIONS long distance phone calls. . . . However, there are aspects of thejob which are left up to the individual. Mr. Foote feels that the most important thing to remember while in an administrative position is to keep an overall perspective of Greenhill's aims and purposes. He feels that he cannot let himself be limited to an emotional level while making decisions. He also feels, along with other members of the faculty, that the most rewarding experience in teaching is to see what happens to people you have helped to challenge and develop. He works with systems, structures, and the curriculum in an effort to make Greenhill the best preparatory school in the country. He is pleased by the commitment made by the faculty, the board of directors, the students, and their families to improve the quality of life for everyone on the campus. When he was asked what was the most difficult goal to accomplish, he replied, The continuation of the welding together of all the different people and ideals that make Greenhill an effective institutionf' ,aug 18 an ,,. v .1 'L '50 he Executive Committee of the Board of rustees we x x I Mr. Robert D. Rogers, Chairman The Administrator The administration is considered to be responsible for making sure the school runs smoothly. This job often entails more than what initially comes to mind. This year, as in past years, there seems to be emphasis on making the administration more accessible to the students. Many administrators feel that they cannot effectively operate a school without being in close contact with the students themselves. While their duties range from admissions to heads of schools, the administrators' common goal is to have, in the end, an efficiently run school. With these tasks and other non-academic activities the teachers were kept extremely busy this year. Many were sponsors of clubs or literary organizations. Also. there were two faculty sponsors for each grade. which entailed anything from cooking hot dogs to helping with baccalaureate services. Several teachers expressed the feeling that it is very rewarding to see students finally understand something which previously they had been unable to grasp. They also felt that to have a former student come back, tell them that what they taught them had helped and thank them for being there, was a tremendous compliment. Middle School Faculty Concentrate: on Individual Need: The middle school faculty found themselves doing a number of activities which might not normally he considered a part of tl academic curriculum, They cheered on the middle school teams at athletic events. Some helped sell fudge-o-grams. Some teache attended dances while others found themselves actually camping out, All of the activities were done with spirit. Most of tl teachers expressed a desire that the courses they were teaching would have relevance to the students in future years. The teachers have to help each student develop a desire to learn which must remain with the student for years to come. There was a Christmas program to plan and a field day in the spring. Field trips and the day-to-day educational plans had to be organized. Besides making sure their finger-painting techniques were correct and up-to-date, the preschool faculty also had to make sure they were meeting the needs of the children in the best way possible. Mrs. Fleming, head of the preschool, spent time making sure the preschool was an active part of the Greenhill community. Each teacher put time, effort, and thought into teaching. The following quotes, in particular ways, show how each member of the faculty regarded his work. The Librarians show the younger students how to use the reference area and the card catalogue effectively. Much time has to be spent on the selection of the books which are chosen for our library. The decisions have to be made on what type of books the students use and which ones are most helpful. As the library's role grows, the Librarians, responsibilities towards making the library for everyone's use, increases. They are doing an excellent job. Greenhill invited over thirty prominent business men and women from the Dallas area to give presentations about their jobs. Students were able to attend three sessions of their choice along with one mandatory session with the Texas Volunteer Commission. There was everything from a female pilot to an opthamologist. There was even a representative from the Peace Corps. Most students were enthusiastic and benefited from this unique experience. The Hornets did not place at the top of either the TISC or the SPC this year, but the team played well in the end-of-the season tournaments. At the TISC tournament, they lost matches with the two powerhouse teams, Ft. Worth Country Day and Hockaday, only when the clock ran out during tie-breaking games. Then, at SPC, the Hornets' match with Kincaid s highlighted the tournament as Greenhill caused the first-place team to suffer its sole defeat. Their strength was shown easily when they played a close match against Bryan Adams High School. The Hornets played most of the season in the defensive 2-3-4 with a sweeper back helping the fullbacks. The team is a very mature unit made up of many seniors, along with some juniors, sophomores, and one freshman. In the first half of the season the Hornets had a 2-0-3 record. The two wins were a 5-0 victory over Trinity Valley and a tough l-0 defeat of St. Mark's. It was the first win over St. Markls in many years. Another big game was a 2-2 tie with Jesuit. In the second half of the season the Hornets had a 3-3-0 record. The wins came over Selwyn, and Jesuit and Cassady. Girls Soccer The girls' soccer team, in its third year, is a vastly improved team. Under Coaches Penny Powell and Cheryl Benoit, the team is mastering the fundamentals well, thus helping their overall game. The leading scorer for the Hornets is Laurie Gold, followed by Paige Parsons. Another standout is first year goalkeeper Graylyn Boyd. Improvement should continue in the future. The Hornets will have many experienced middle schoolers on the team next year. This should spell bright days in the future for girls, soccer. The programs revolve around two Apple rnicro-computers W small portable machines, the portability of the Apple allows students of all ages to use the computers almost daily. Student involvement in programs has been great, auguring well for the future role of computers at Greenhill. 127 By devoting forty-five minutes per week of their time, Greenhill students are able to see how other educational systems work. By opening a few of the dusty Greenhill windows and looking outside, these students may be opening doors for less fortunate children. Guiding perspective students around the school by the Greenhill students is a first for the 77-78 year.
