I egine my suprise when I discovered that the world famous actor, Archibald Max ell, was none other than Odis Dey. 'Uhy, I lnow hint' I exclaimed in amazement. 'He was in my class at Greenfield High School, and we graduated together only twelve years ago.' 'Hou I would like to know where the rest of my class are and what they are doing.' 'I know of e crystal gazer who might help you,' replied my friend. 'She is said to be quite good. S ell we visit nerr' 'I never believed in fortune tellers or crystal gszers, but I'm,wi1l1ng to try.' I So we left the theatre and drove to the studio of Mldam.Lamar. Ls I entered, a chill ran through my body. this room.eas so dark, unreal, and wierd. The walls were covered with black silk, with curious designs of gold and silver worked into them- Ro one appeared except a tur- banned Indian who led us down a long hall into a room, dimly lighted by one s ell taper. In the center of the room.wes a smell table of shining ebony, upon which.1es an object covered with e square of velvet. 'Gan I be of service to Madamr' I jum ed at the sound of the voice, for I had heard no one enter. Standing beside me was a tall figure in e long flowing robe of black silk, with a hlaek.hool pulled down low over the face. It was she tho had spoken. Why, yes, I zmnaged to reply. 'I mnder if you can showrme there my old classmates are and what they are doing.F 'It sill be a pleasure,' she replied. 'Pleas be seeted.' e I seated myself and united nervously. Slowl she moved to the opposite side of the table and raised the imdvet. There I see a large roung crystal hall supported by a golden flame. 'Madam must keep her eyes on the crystal,' seid the queer looking figure. 'Concentrate on any person or persons, and they willa appear.' Zyf 1 Xxf 4 ,' X NX f laden Lan r spread her hands over the hall, n nhled onethlng, and than withdrew her hands In the crystal there appeared a scene I saw the interior of a great church, where an evangelist was holding a service as he drew near, I recog- nized lanrlce Belew, whose nagnetic personality was ace lpllshlng something Another motion, and the scene changed to that ot as convent, where a nun was standing by the door. And who should this nun he? Hone oth r than our old trie d, Evelyn McAdams. lnlckly the scene shifted, and I saw a nan running down the street with a great net ln his hands. H aaa chasing a small dog. He caught it and as he stopps to regain his breath, I recog- nised I. B. Candle. The crystal ball din ed for a second, and than glowed brighter than before. I saw s circus in which l ry Margaret Jeter was winning gr at applause as a bareback rlder, and Halton Batey, he strong nan, was lifting great weights. an army camp appeared before ny wandering eye. Here I saw virginia Canada, the wife of an army ottleer. The scene shifted to a large airplane landing. Khan the pilot stepped out ct his plane, I recognised Charles Moseley. Again he fascinating h nds moved, and I saw a great office building. It seemed that I entered and walked through the different corridors I saw Luke coats ness on a door as an Undertaker, and inside las Lake with a calm lock on his face. Slowly the glow cf the crystal died away, and I was again in the dark room of Madam Lamar. 'Bas adam seen?' she asked. '!es,' I replied, 'Plsnty.' 'There ls yet anothsr,' she said. 'If Madam gaze once more into th crystal, she will ll as she said this, she m vsd the mall taper the table. I gazed once more into the crystal. surface was like a mirror. I could see the or the Madame head, and I recognised Ph1111p lariha Be lle Hatcher History repeats itself. Each class that enters e school must leave it. In August, just four years ago, thirty-six scared but hopeful Freshmen became students of G. H. S. Yes! we were Fresh en and as green as Freshmen usually are. Even o r eagerness to be high school students co ld not hide our extreme humiliation when we did something to bring forth smiles from the upper-classmen. This did not last forever. Before many we could stroll along with an air as noncholant as that of a Senior. Our first year was new an exciting for all of usm but the new soon wore Our members did not participate in many school activities. Maurice Belew represented the Freshmen class by speaking for the Jeff Soc on Trophy night. The Freshman Home-Ec. girls served four banquets during the year. The next year 16 of our members dropped out and four new members joined us, so we started of the Sophomore year with 24 members. We felt jus a little more important this year, as there was t least onelclass to which we felt superior. she boys of the Sophomore class selected Mary largaret Jeter to represent their class at Hal- 1cwe'en Carnival in the Gym. Maurice Belew spok again on Trophy night. Our Junior year was a little more eventful as well as successful. We felt as if we were getting somewhere. This year we started with 17 members, and a few weeks after school started Walton Batey joined our class. Eight of our members were eligible to join the National Honor ary Beta Club. April l, the Junior Class entertained the Senior class with a banquet at the Cumberland Presbyterian Church. ,Trophy night, Eugene Priestley debated for the Jeff Society. Senior! My that sounded good to us. Our senior year was started with the smallest class that's been in G. H. S. in a long time. le have only ll me bers left. Tho Seniors, Gharles and Odin Day made the main football teel and Maurice Belew las elected captain of the basket- ball team. Martha Belle Hatcher was elected ball queen and Mary M. Jeter was he maid of honor. They were also cheer leaders for '57 and '5B. The senior class is sponsoring a year book, the first one to be published in Greenfield High Schools Our History is not.without romance. The reed to romance las not left untraveled, Ruby Lee Williams, Mildred Flowers, and Harold Drewry chose that in preference to High School, while. Welton Betsy was willing to try both. We have had our honors, our sorrows, and romances as all classes do and when we call to mind the days that have passed, our Joys are so great that our hardships are forgotten. is we are approaching the parting of ways' it is with a feeling of sadness that we leave our beloved school.and seek fame in the world. we have done our best and we hope we have fought e good fight. we cannot leave unmentioned our teachers, those patient guides uho have led and influenced us in.ehat we think was the right path It is our sincere hope that we have been worthy models for the lower classes. May they profit by our mistakes and more deservedly be called graduates of Greenfield High School. Class Histo ian Mary Margaret Jete .
