CLASS PROPI-IECY Never have the green lawns of the Riley Park looked more attractive or inviting than they do on this May day in 1961. For the first time in ten years the members of the Class of '51 are meeting and greeting their former classmates in a jolly reunion. Yes, it has been quite a while since we, young and eager, went away from the Alma Mater, out into the world, each to seek his own fortune and happiness. just think of the experiences that will be related-the memories that will be re-lived this day under the old willows. Our reveries are broken as we see the guests beginning to arrive. First there is Bill Kivett, dignified and important, carrying a precious box containing many ribbons. Yes, he has just returned from an International Stock Show in Chicago where he has won many awards for his prize stock. Bill Wilson, who has returned recently from California, also is here. Speed Wilson is among the top participants in the 500-mile Race and is expected to repeat his performances and to emerge again as champion in his racer, Old Jockof' Now arriving is Doctor Virginia Sisson, a noted surgeon from the Mayo Clinic. With her is a tall, attractive blonde nurse, Virginia Seyfferle. Virginia has laid aside her uniform as an angel of mercy for the afternoon and is eager to join the fun. Bette Julian, promoter for the Travelers' Trailers, lnc., is seen gliding down the street in her new duplex trailer. Later in the evening she is to make a speech on Life in a Duplex. Here comes Jean Hardin strolling in telling all of us about her horse, Skip- to-ma'-lou who, she is quite certain, will win the Kentucky Derby. Jean has always been interested in horses, but it was somewhat of a surprise to find that she is a trainer of them on a large ranch in Kentucky. Mayor Monte Walker has just given everyone a warm welcome. His body- guard and right-hand man, Bill Gilsdorf, is never far from him. The Han-Dee Grocery must have closed early because we see Jim Repar, the proprietor, also among the crowd. The eligible bachelor, james Huffman, professor of Civics, is busy comparing notes with Dick Andis, who is now a Commercial teacher. Ethel Becraft, manager of the local theater, announces the showing of a new movie, The Dance, starring that famous dancing team, Gary Gustin and Ruth- ann Smith. Driving up in a '61 Dodge is Maurice Andis. He is now the prosperous owner of John Ramp, Inc. With him comes his manager, Richard Jackson, and his very efficient secretary, Patricia Andis. An airplane is circling above us. It must be Bob McQueeney, who is taking time out from his regular flight to the west coast to join his group. The airline hostess, Frances Kocber, waves and displays a friendly smile. A call just came from New York, telling us that Susan Winslow, feature editor for the New York Times, will be unable to be here. Perhaps her big scoop has finally come. Also in New York City is Marilyn Andis. She is employed by Saks Fifth Avenue as a buyer of Teen-age wearing apparel. Shirley Holt, head librarian at the Greenfield Public Library, has just arrived. She reads us a letter which Mary Tuttle has written about the experiences she and Donna Lingenfelter are having as they make a tour of Europe. Chauncey Brooks, manager of the Babbling Brooks Hotel and Night Club, is here from Chicago. Several of his classmates are employed at this business estab- lishment, among whom are Wilma slack, a beauty operator: and Imogene Morgan. the soloist of an orchestra directed by Gordon Leary. Joe Andis tells us that he has given up his professional basketball playing and has had a very successful season as a coach. Dick Arbuckle is discussing his career on the golf course. He has won many awards in open tournaments. Bob Pope, sports writer for the magazine Todayls' Sports, brought word that F-loyd Graddy, ihiddleweight champion of .the world, would not be able to attend due to need for training for his next bout. jim Thomas is home on vacation from his strenuous duties as a surveyor. He brings us some very intriguing stories about South America. Since the State Legislature has adjourned, Philip Bradford is able to attend and to act as toastmaster for us. With him is his private secretary, Ruth Anne Ross. Jack Wilson reports that he is rolling right along as promoter of the Roller Derby. Sherlock Bill Moore and Philip Thompson, assistant district attorneys, are relating some criminal cases that they helped solve. Lois jackson and Laura Cooney, secretaries respectively, look on with interest. Jack Boyer is spending only a short time with us as he is very eager to con- tinue his travels for Dunn and Bradstreet. Joan Carroll, architect, speaks of her frequent successes as designer of little stone houses. After the meeting is called to order, we learn that Robert Campbell is a Forest Ranger in Colorado, and that he likes the wide open places too well to be with us today. . Jacquelene Wickard finds her work as a stylist for the Marshall Fields Com- pany very interesting. And while we are on the subject of clothes, there are the partners in the Shannon-Belcher Clothing, Inc., Anna and Jean are probably relating some of their business experiences. Jack Scott, now a famous musician playing with the New York Symphony, seems to be enjoying himself with his old friends. Dick Elsbury invites us to listen to the program, The Farm Hour, which he M. C.'s on station WFBM T. V. Also we discover we can see Patty Hill on television doing her famous rodeo tricks and can listen to Clyde Jackson as the singing advertiser. The climax of the afternoon's feast will be a dessert furnished by Ellen Schaffer. Her product, Aunt Ellie's Strawberry Jellies, has brought her wealth and fame, but Joan Holmes, local pharmacist, stands by with an alkalizer-just in case. Now that the crowd is all assembled, we see Jean Bussell, co-owner of the Rosy Apple Studio, getting her apparatus ready to take pictures that will record the scenes of the reunion of the Class of 1951. .N WHEN WE WERE YOUNG wsu- sm:1ll-fry :irc :ull ll16'lNlJl'l'S of this y0ar's senior class. lluw nizuiy flu yuu rccugiiizv? NEWS FLASHES REFLECT OUR TIMES .BORING lREl'LACES STIERS Late in November, 1950, S. R. Boring, former principal of the Maxwell School, replaced Walter Stiers, whom Uncle Sam recalled to active duty with the U. S. Navy. Mr. Boring teaches social studies in junior high and is sponsor of the junior boys. NEW ELECTRIC CLOCK A new automatic electric clock which rings the class bells has been installed in the lower office. This miraculous time-piece accurately rings all the necessary bells during school hours during school days-it automatically turns off the bell controls after school hours, and on Saturdays and Sundays. NEW SCORE BOARDS New modern electric score boards, which were delivered too late to be installed for use at the sectional tournament, will greet basketball enthusiasts, when the 1951-52 basketball season begins. AUDITORILYM Has NEW LOOK Our auditorium exemplifies the greatest improvement this year in the Signs of Our Times. It has been treated with sound proofing material which greatly impncfves its acoustical properties. Our industrious custodians have completely redecorated its interior. New stage curtains add their share of beauty to make our auditorium one of the most modern of its kind. The halls and the music room have received the same acoustical treatment. GROWING PAINS Because of the increase in the school population foreseen for the next several years, the Greenfield School City has purchased a twenty-four acre tract of land, commonly known as the Rafferty Ground. Plans are underway how best to use ,this tract of land to meet the ultimate expansion of the present school facilities. XII lll't'IxI.lilCliRRN NIR. liixifmum Nha. t,tixis'imt it Nha.
