I John Longmeyer would l1ke to relate to you the story of my v1s1t to the town of T1ger Hallow ' as I was tak1ng a vacat1on from my Job of sell1ng old cop1es of the T1ger Tales Arr1v1ng early 1n the mornmg 1n the year 1970 I dec1ded to get a cup of coffee 1n the ' MELBA MAGUIRE CAFE WhenIf1n1shed my coffee I stepped out on the curb and halled an arrow tax1 dr1ven by GARY CHAPMAN the tax1 dr1ver of all tax1 dr1vers Apol1cewoman PATTY MENELEY was standmg 1h the street d1rect1ng traf f1c and asshe stopped the tax1 I saw through the skyv1ew the skywr1ter FRANK GRUBB who was work1ng for the RAYMOND ALLEN A1r Craft Corporat1on ad vert1s1ng LARRY PRATHER'S cemetery My tax1 turned off Burnham Street onto the n1ce broad Eberle Avenue and rolled to a stop 1n front of my dest1nat1on the WILLIAM WHITE Rest Resort As I f1n1shed unpack1ng my CHARLES RETHERFORD luggage I dec1ded to take a small tour of the c1ty The f1rst shopIsaw1nthe buslness d1str1ct was the MYRON 'squeak squeak' REXROAD Shoe Store Insmde I saw an old classmate of m1ne the world champ 1on racer r1sky CLETUS 'hot rod ROTH On down the street was DARRELL KESSINGER'S Haberdashery where I saw the bro chemlst, LLOYD OVERBEY buylng a very expenswe polka dot t1e Suddenlylhearda large commotlon and cheenng m the street As I ran out s1de the store I saw a huge crowd and parade com1ng down the street honorxng the now famous doctor LOIS CAFFERY who had just gotten back to the states after demonstratmg new med1ca1 techmques 1n Europe S1nce th1s was her hometown I learned from the robust mayor JOE LONGMEYER that a t1me of great fest1v1ty and celebrat1on was to be held 1n her honor That even1ng as I took my seat 1n the grandstand at the T1ger Hollow Fa1r grounds I heard the follow1ng 'Lad1es and gents f1rst on the program th1s fme evenmgwe w1ll have h beauty contest wh1ch I know you w1ll enjoy Here 15 the l1ne up of contestants LOU COONROD SALLY RICHEY and ELSIE STEWART The Judges to p1ck a w1nner from th1s fabulous l1ne are DON FERGURSON and JIM CLARK By the way 1n case anyone suffers eyestra1n the famous eye doctor RICHARD left eye MILLER IS 1n the aud1ence For entertamment tomght we have mus1c by HOWARD 'L1berace ELMORE We also have that famous duet GUYLIA RANGE and CAROLE KIRBACH the Jazzy gems to s1ng for you that new bop song wr1tten by the playwnght m1ll1on a1re GEORGE ROBBINS Wh1le th1s fme program was gomg on I looked around the grandstand to see 1f Iknew anyone I saw some promlnent pol1t1cal f1gures from Washlngton D C who were s1tt1ng together The lady senator MARGARET BAKER Chxef of the F B I LYLE COX and Sec of Agr1culture CLAUDE WALKER Also Slttlng w1th them was the pres1dent of the N N U ELAINE MCWARD From the sports world there were BOB HUFF and PETE WAHL of the World Champlon St Lou1s Browns and RICHARD BRIGGS coach of the Ch1cago Bears wlth two of h1s stars DON SAMPLE and SAM THORNTON Although I hadn't sold many old 1ssues of the T1ger Tales my stay was very profltable because I had seen how many of the l1ves of the 1956 graduat1ng class of Greenfleld Commumty I-hgh School were turn1ng out On my way out of towr I met a b1g new car make unknown and who should be r1d1ng 1n It but TOM WOODKIRK and h1s drlver was none other than BOB SONNEBORN Th1s just goes to show what good dr1v1ng w1ll do Th1s page sponsored by DeW1TT MOTOR COMPANY 61 lacksonvxlle Illxnoxs 0 9 9 . , . . . . s . 1 9 ' I ll . n , .
