Hiking .i s. 5 About 3:30 a.m. on April 17, the Seniors came dragging into the depot, where we wearily waited for our train. Finally at 5:10 the train pulled in, much to our pleasure. Except for a couple of cases of sickness, the trip to Minneapolis was unevent- ful. After checking in at the Hotel Dyckman, we enjoyed our tour of the Air Base and a walk through the rain, which seemed like miles to the Northwest Airlines terminal for dirmer. After a long wait, we toured the Ford Plant. The night was spent in various ways after returning to the hotel from the Ice Follies, Air Base 0 +139 XZ-S X QS- 1 which everyone enjoyed very Checking Qut much. Saturday morning was spent in various ways including shopping and going to the movies. After checking out of the hotel, we started our journey home when many slept to catch up on that which they had missed earlierg others experienced eat- ing on the diner for the first time. 12 Hom ew ard Journey sl Oops, lost something. The Junior-Senior Banquet was held on May 16, 1959. The Jun iors transformed the gymnasium into an enchanting evening of Moonlight and Roses. Tables were set around a wishing well covered with roses. The wait- resses wore pastel skirts and blouses and the waiters black trousers and white shirts with black bow ties. The freshman girls started off the program by singing A Dream is aWish Your Heart Makes. After the program the Downbeats pro- vided music for a wonderful evening of dancing. At 11:30 the guests boarded school buses for Hampton, where they saw the show Hey Boy, Hey Gir1. When the group returned, the senior parents entertained with a Carnival after which break- fast was served in the school cafeteria. rl Charming. Moonlight-Dancing I-0114-Ely? The team was very ambitious and never quit trying. In the sectional tournament we met a much-publicized Waverly team and lost in a close battle. Bobby Barth, the 5 ft. 7 inch guard, was the team 's playmaker, leading in assists, recoveries, and had the top field goal shooting percentage. Bob ended the season averaging 10.3 points per game. Clare Grendler, the only starting underclassman, was the team 's leading scorer, averaging 13 points per game, led in rebounds, and was top free throw shooter. Don Van Dyke was the team 's big man, ranking second in rebounding. Bob Teeple proved to be a good spot player, and was the third leading scorer, averaging '7.'7 points per game. Don Menken played steady ball throughout the season, averaging 6.2 points per game, and was third in rebounding. Next year shows much promise, however, only Clare Grendler returns as a letter winner. A very eager group of sophomores promise to take up the slack. TRACK The Ramblers enjoyed a very successful year in track this season. Grendler placed fourth at the state indoor meet. At the Comet Relays, Greene placed third in their class. As in other years the Ramblers won the Corn Bowl Conference meet quite handily. We also won the District meet this year by taking firsts in the 440, 880 relay, mile medley, open 440, shot put, and seconds in the mile relay and the broad jump. We brought home three trophies from the Bison Relays at Buffalo Center. 32 R TRACK Don Menken Mike Mead Shot Put Football Throw Ron Slocum, Bob Kepple Clare Crendler, Crarg Burroughs Mrle Medley Ron Slocum Rollm Ray Drstnce Runner Sprmter Larry Blum, Don Lrtterer, Mrke Brunsma Roger Wells Freshman Relay John Menken Coach Wolters Clare Grendler Dlscus Dennrs Wunsch Crarg Burroughs 33 Steve Rottler Mrle Relay GOLF W AND , I - TENNIS Golf was started as an extra- curricular activity for both boys and girls this spring.
