T H E K E Y S T 0 N E Girls Vocational Work P' OME Making is that occupation which centers around the home, 'I whether that home be the co-operative enterprise, conducted by a hus- band and wife, for the benefit of their children themselves, children and society, or a place called home by an unmarried woman without a family. Home makers of those girls for whom home economics training is re- quired, includes all girls in any capacity or degree, share or will at some time share in the activities of home making. The science of home making in which every girl should be trained, in- cludes many things, the most important being the following: Sanitation, Hygiene, Economy and Education. Some folks have the wrong idea of the Vocational School, they think that if a girl graduates from a four years' course she should be a profes- sional. The school work tries to give a foundation to future life and devel- opment, and if in a humble way the home making department can open the vision of the girls to the reality and possibilities of home making, that they will anxiously seek further development, the school feels that it has func- tioned. The girls of Greene-Dreher realize the importance and practicability of the home making work, and we trust that it will be advanced and better prepared to meet the increasing demands of the community of which we are a part. 80

THE KE YSTONE The Community and Vocational School Fair HE 1920 Fair was an expression of real community spirit as well as an activity that is fostered by our school. The recent fair was the first under the new management. In the Fall of 1920 the Community Fair was put in the hands of a Community organization, with the school co-oper- ating. The results of the new arrangement left no doubt in the minds of the people as to the advisability of the scheme. We do not have space to go into detail, so we will endeavor to only tell of the important features. The added attraction this year was the livestock exhibit. The patrons of the school showed their desire for this feature by the excellent manner in which they entered their stock. The committee underestimated the interest in livestock, for the large number of stanchions that were built did not accommodate the entries. We trust that we will improve in this department next year. The tag day was a success when we consider that nearly ninety dollars was realized. The booths conducted by the different classes were artisti- cally decorated. The judges awarded the prize to the seniors for the pret- tiest booth. The competition is strong in arranging booths, and much in- terest is shown by the classes. Of course no celebration is complete without eats. This necessity was provided for by the ladies of the community. All those who were served spoke in high praise of the repast. Financially the fair was beyond expectations. A nice amount was put in the reserve fund, and about two hundred dollars was given to the Com- munity Hall Association in payment on the hall. As Seniors we hope that the future classes will realize the importance of the annual fair and will continue to show the interest in the future as was shown in the past. All honor coming to the community comes to the school, and all honor coming to the school comes to the community. Let us work in an effort to make a better school and a better community. 32
