Among their activities have been a movie, a Record Hop, a football concession, and everyones delight, The Prom . Weeks of discussion, planning, decorating, and plotting were climaxed by a night to remember. It has been a wonderful year for the Juniors. We wish them luck as next year's Seniors. FRONT ROW: D. Intermediate algebra and chemistry have confounded not a few, while home economics and advanced drawing challenge others. The year has not been easy for the eleventh grade, but they are now looking forward with great antici- pation to being Seniors. Mr. Elmore has been the class advisor. FRONT ROW: C. Whitmarsh, M. Sophomore Class The Sophomores have completed the first of several steps in preparation for citizenship education regents. Latin, biology, geometry, and English 10 have helped con- vince the class that there is a difference between junior high and high school. Scholas- tically they have learned that the standards and aims are high. Mr. James Maginsky is the class advisor. 30 FRONT ROW: K. Shoemaker, M. Rideout, S. Byrne, S. Kimball, S. Rockwell,C. Some of the activities for the Sophomores have been a movie, a skating party, a foot- ball game concession, and, of course, the traditional Sophomore Sock Hop. Never lacking in vitality, ideas, or numbers, the class bodes watching. This is our first Mbig class necessitating a split into four sections, the first class to have over one hundred potential graduates. We hope for and expect some records to be set by you. Good luck. 31 Freshman Class The 9th Grade this year acquired their name of Freshmen , and gained the first real taste of senior high school life. They made out program cards and chose their courses. Such things as Latin I and algebra became a part of their vocabulary. They have still been a part of the junior high school, but for them this is graduation year. Mr. Keetz is their class advisor. Wynn. 32 Activities this year included a football dance, concession stands at football and basketball games, and also a dance to be held after their graduation. The difference between 9th and 10th grades has often been compared to the difference between the last year of high school and the first year of college. We hope that you are aware of this challenge and we know that you will meet it with the Greene spirit in which we all take pride. L. Winston, N. Pollard, L . Collier, D. Badger, S. Cane, C. We look back at the past season as successful for many reasons. First and foremost is the fact that our team improved and learned more each successive game. When a team realizes its mistakes and corrects them, then they must improve and win. We had decided before the season started that this would be a building year, and that it would be an excellent season if we could win half of the games. The team outdid our expectations and finished with the best record that Greene has had in many years. We will miss our strong co-captains and all of the seniors, but with the nucleus that we have re- turning, we will be satisfied only with the championship this coming fall. We have never seen a Greene football team give up. During the past two years our teams have taken pride in their condition, spirit, sportsmanship, and drive to win. Remember in football and throughout life...LEAVE NOREGRETS ON THE FIELD. The Coaching Staff Roger Beach, D. Kelly, N. Orr, J. Nowalk, R. Robbins, C. Capra, W. Harrington, F. Eggleston, Roy Beach, C. Parks, D. Aikens. Manager: Roger Grant,Mr. Bub. Wrestling The Greene-Grapplers under Coach Robert Bub boast a record of 7 wins and 0 losses to date. Having scored 280 points as against the opponents' 70. Greene has set down such schools as Vestal, for the first time, Cortland, Homer, Sidney, Mount Pleasant of Schnectady, Bainbridge, and Deposit. Remaining matches are Newark Valley, Chenango Valley, Chenango Forks, and the Sectional Tournaments.Still undefeated members of the squad are Seniors Carlton Orr; who has a habit of winning by pinning and who is two time Section 4 141 lb. Champion, his brother Neal Orr, a Sophomore, Delos Kelly, another Sophomore, and Duane Whittaker, a Junior. Greene's remaining Varsity squad consists of Senior John Nowalk, 120 lb., Richarington 154 lb., David Aiken, Unlimited, Juniors Carl Capra, 133 lb., Roger Robbins, 127 lb., Walter Harrington 140 lb., Fred Eggleston and Freshman Roger Beach both 95 lb., and Roy Beach 165 lb. 58 As the yearbook goes to press, the varsity team has an ex- cellent chance of improving last season's 5 to 5 league record and 8 to 9 over-all record. Despite early season injuries, the team won six of seven games after a slow start. Highlights of the season to date were the squad's resounding upset of Chenango Forks, a come-from-behind thriller over Whitney Point, two closing- minute defeats to still-champion Sidney, and a good showing against powerful Chenango Valley. At present the squad has won four of eight league games and has an over-all of seven wins and five losses. There have been excellent teamwork and usually sound defense. If these two elements continue, the team has a chance to turn in the school's best basketball record in nine years. Seven of the eleven boys graduate; Bruce Campbell - One-hand shot from side. Dribbler. Alan Eddy - Co-captain. 48 points in first two games before broken hand. Bruce Hopkins - Rose from J.V. sub. to number one varsity sub. Always trying. Good zone player. Bud Meade - Ex. J. V. sub. to scrappiest varsity boy in the league. Best defense player on team. Dick Najarian - Co-captain. Deadly set-shot. Good dribbler, back on defense. Dick Pope - Quick one-hander. Good scorer. Clutch points won several close games. Rodney Stone - Loyal, fastest boy on team. One-hander. Returning will be Mike Adams, Steve Carter, Pete Church-Smith, and Larry Sherwood.
