5494? In September 1946, we, a new freshman class and the future seniors of SO, appeared on the scene. We reluctantly allowed ourseslves to be initiated, and then we began preparing ourselves for our high school career. We elected Don Marketto, president, Ann Brooks, vice-president, Barbara Goodman, secretaryg and Joyce Arnold, treasurer. We sent Don Marketto and Ann Brooks to the Student Council. In October we were entertained by the sophomores. Then we gave a dance for the sophomores the next April. In no time at all, we learned to act as a high school student should. Feeling as though we had been in high school always, we started our 1947-48 year by taking care of our business quickly and efficiently. Our officers were Charles Collins, president, Jeannine Ewing, vice-president-g Betty Hurst, secre- tary, and Joyce Alexander, treasurer. Joyce Arnold and Jim Poor were our council representatives. We took care of our social obligations by giving a party for the freshmen and by attending the one they gave us. Then we settled down to studying and more studying. Now it was 1948. We were juniors. This year we made our presence felt. We elected James Poor, president, Don Marketto, vice-presidentg Betty Hurst, secretary, and Joyce Alexander, treasurer. We chose Albert Crandall, Joyce Alexander, Joyce Arnold, and Charles Collins to be our council representatives. Our prom was held at Turkey Run State Park and it proved to be wonderful for both juniors and seniors. Five of our classmates made the National Honor Society. Socially and scholastically speaking, we had a good year. Seniors! For eleven years this has been our goal. And now, having realized our ambition, we find we are the possessors of many traditional privileges and obligations. Selling cokes and ice cream at the ball games, presenting the senior play, being guests at the prom, handing out cards and pictures-these are a definite part of being a senior. Since we needed able class officers to make our last year a success, we elected John Thomas, president, Albert Crandall, vice-president, Maxine Gibson, secre- taryg and Joyce Alexander, treasurer. After careful consideration, we decided to send Joyce Arnold, Juanita Buckner, Joyce Alexander, John Thomas, Paul Newby, and Betty Hurst to the Student Council. We put Betty Hurst in charge of the Minaret. In no time at all, we had our affairs well in hand. And then, when we began to think of what graduation would really mean to us, we realized we would leave many things behind us. There are the school parties and the exciting ball games which we will never forget. Although' we look forward to a bright future, it is a little sad to realize that we are leaving the school. Now we must become spectators-spectators of a period of life which we probably will remember as the happiest of all. 10
