GEDR To the class of 1985, Mr. George Frey has been a great teacher but most of all a friend who has been there for us. Mr. Frey is concerned about how we feel and tries to improve our classes by making psychology a really fun and interesting subject. No one ever walked out of Mr. Frey's class in a plateau. Greencastle has been lucky enough to have Mr. Frey for the past seventeen years. He has made psychology a favorite class among the seniors, not only this year but also in years past. ll you ever need help on a research or thesis paper, just look up Mr. Freyg he will personally escort you to the library and help you search for information. Mr. Frey, we The Senior Class of 85 , dedi- cate to you our 1985 Conocochegue. Staff photo 1984 Staff photo 1970 f ibm 1,1 After having psychology for a semester, students may develop symp- toms of stress and tension which manifest themselves in strange and bazarre forms of behavior tlettb. Mr. Frey's prescribed remedy tor these peculiar student behaviors is patience, understanding, and a batch of Christmas cookies. v sic A r- 43 f FRIENDSHIP As you begin paging through the 1985 yearbook, you will notice that many of the pictures are centered on friends. This is because we feel friendship is a very important part of high school, and that is why Friendship was chosen to be the theme of the 1985 Conocoheague. Take the time to think of the most memorable times you and your friends have had during high school. We've had a lot of good times along with some bad times and happy along with the sad, but they're all a part of friendship and the reasons we've grown close to each other over the years. We made it through those weight-lifting classes in gym, those disecting classes in biology, and the speeches in English... with friends. After we are out of school, we may not see many of the people we are around everyday. We hope many of the pictures we've chosen for the 1985 Conococheague will help you remember your friends and good times at GAHS throughout the years to come. Xfwivglfama-L V-J . I!! Q Friendship makes good times special. Remembering our friends in high school will help to keep alive the memories oi our good times at GAHS. ,+.J'? .i C: 's 3 3 ns, E , . . ' kg xx ., 1. We Seniors worry about them so much that we get all nervous over nothing. The photographers do all the work and all we do is say cheese . Cheryl Bowman ftop lettj signs in to get ready for her biggest smile yet, while Kim Lowe Cmiddlej explains the packages you may purchase. Wayne Nocton flettJ is getting his make-up applied, which is the last preparation before the pictures are linally snapped. Mike Mitchell taboveb is showing how to smile in style. ' ANNE FRIENDSHIP Keep in mind your closest friend As you read this poem through And maybe you will see how much That this friend means to you . . . A special friend is someone With whom you can share All trials and tribulations Because you know they care. lt's in this friend that you confide The secrets that you keep, And on their shoulder that you cry When over trials of life you weep. lt's for this friend that you'd be humble Admitting defeat graciously, And on this friend you could depend To treat you respectiveIyL l'm hoping you will understand Those things these words can't show. This special friend means more to you Than you will ever know. . . . Now that we are Seniors These friendships do not end. But continue on throughout our life. Good luck to you, lllly friends. I got to meet many people who I never would have known existed. I expecially will cherish' the friendships that I have made with Luria Hater, Carla Henson, Michelle Smith, Paula Plottner, and the other girls that worked in the bookstore. Working in the bookstore wasn't always fun and games, although we had our times. We were responsible for ordering snacks and drinks, selling carnations, candy canes, and many other student council items, and handling the money. We even had to deal with a few small friends who decided to visit us. Through it all, I'll never forget the good and the bad memories of working in the bookstore. A team made up of all underclassmen concluded their second consecutive undefeated season with a 6- 0 record, and over the past three years have won 19 consecutive meets, 25 out of 26 all together. Once again, for their second year, they won the BML regular championship. Also, they claimed the team championship at the Boonesboro Invitational and the BML Conference Meet, both of those for the third straight year. In the PIAA District Ill Championship meet, the girls finished in the runner-up position, earning them an- other trip to the state championship meet. At the state meet, the girls put together their best effort of the season for a surprising fourth place finish. As in the past years, the Blue Devils were lead by Tracy Bowers, who went undefeated in dual meets again, and also won All-Conference and All-District honors by winning the individual championships for those meets. It was her third straight conference title. She also gathered All-Conference and All-District honors by placing second in the meet at Lehigh University, just a fraction of a second out of first place. Carol Ritz had an outstanding season, gaining All- Conference and All-District honors, and finished the season with a 28th place showing at the state meet. Lisa Ritz and Kim College also gathered All-Comfer- ence honors. With everybody returning, and a good group of freshman and sophomores coming up through the ranks, things appear to be in line for another success- ful season in 1985. The idea began in the fall of l983 when seniors asked how to have their graduation covered in the yearbook. They found out the only way to do it was a spring supplement and the yearbook staff went to work, covering graduation and many other spring events that were never in the yearbook before. With the work now finished on this first issue, the staff proudly presents the l984 Spring Supplement. The yearbook staff takes this opportunity to thank the patrons listed on page nineteen for supporting the Spring Supplement. Some people like to start early on their projects so that they will have time to put it together and make sure everything is in its proper place. Others seem to wait until the night before, then panic and throw everything together. Regardless of the time that is spent on a project, there is always a last minute rush to get things ready the week of the fair. Many students stay after school, trying to get finished on time and make their projects look their best. The day before the fair, the school is humming with excitement as students get out of their classes to set up their projects in the gymnasium and prepare them for judging. THE TENN SSEE TQLIR The GAHS band and choir left Greencastle in April to participate in an International Music Festival in Nashville. They left on Wednesday, April 5, and arrived in Kingsport, Ten- nessee, Thursday morning. They gave two concerts that day and stayed overnight with families in Kingsport. Friday morning they boarded the buses and arrived in Nashville early that afternoon with time to tour the Country Music Hall of Fame and Studio B. Early Saturday morning they joined other bands and choirs from across the country and performed before the judges, then spent the afternoon at the Grand Old Opry enjoying country mu- sic performers. At an outdoor program Saturday night, medals were awarded and all the students participating in the Music Festival had the opportunity to meet each other, socialize, and dance. On Sunday morning they boarded the bus- es, said goodbye to Nashville, and ar- rived back in Greencastle late that night. Students board the buses Cabovej to leave Greencastle on April 5. Students in Kingsport Cabovej sing for the choir, and an old jute box at the Hall of Fame fleftj catches the interest of GAHS visitors. Choir members put their robes in the closet and dress for a concert in suits and gowns. Each senior girl carries a rose and everyone is at their best, making the Spring Concert one of the most beautiful sights and sounds of the school year. This spring the students at GAHS were treat- ed to a performance by the Army Field Band. During the concert a very special clarinet solo was performed by Trecia Karinshak, a graduate of GAHS, now with the Army Band. Following the concert, members of the Army band held workshops in various parts of the school for GAHS band members. Students found their ad- vice helpful, and the concert was enjoyed by all. 13 Tonight . . . elebrate M Love' JUNIOR-SENIOR PROM The I984 prom was truly an evening of elegance and romance for all GAHS seniors and juniors, and their dates. The theme, Tonight, I Celebrate My Love, set the mood on the lovely Sat- urday evening of April 28, at the Ven- ice Inn, in Hagerstown. lt was an evening enjoyed by all and one that will be remembered for a very long time. l 5 ' 6 s A I Q Z 14 .. -: '. The morning of the prom is when the anxiety and anticipation really build up. You look forward to pam- pering yourself with bubble baths, the hair dresser, maybe a manicure, and last but not least, your gown. A touch of your favorite fragrance and you're all set. The door bell ringsl Your special someone brings you flowers and of course, they match perfectly. Then all those pictures . . . your parents and his parents, friends, and neighbors. After all the hassle, you leave for the prom. When you get there the butterflies turn to bats. The sign on the door greets you with best wishes and you find your table. After dinner the dance begins, the atmosphere relaxes, things come alive, and the evening seems to go so fast. By Sherri Johnson 15 SAYING GOGDBYE Senioritis reaches its peak in the last few weeks of school. It progresses into its final stages as Seniors begin to clean out their lockers and get rid of old notebooks and worksheets. On May I8 the situation becomes hopeless. lt's the last day for seniors. They dress up as if it's Halloween, they decorate their cars, they parade through town, they drive around the school, and they remind the under- classmen and teachers it's the last day for seniors by chanting and singing in the halls between classes. lt's a happy time and a sad time, for the last day of school also means saying goodbye to friends and teachers they have come to know throughout the years. When May 30 finally arrived it was cold outside, the weather forcasts called for showers, and graduation was moved indoors to the auditorium. While some may have been disappointed, the indoor cere- mony didn't dampen the spirits of those who were about to graduate. The big day was here and it didn't really matter where they were as long as they got their diplomas. After all. . . that's what graduation is all aboutl 17 I ' , , , 7 18 GRADLIATIQ The Class of l984 graduated from Greencastle-Antrim High School dur- ing commencement exercises held on Wednesday evening. May 30. During the program, John R. Walker. In looking at the years ahead, Mr. Walker advised sen- iors to continue learning and growing in whatever paths they choose to fol- low. Mr. McConnell presented the Class of l984 to those in attendance and called the seniors forward to receive their diplomas from Mr. Fred Myers, School Board President. The commencement exercises came to a close as the band played Pomp . and Circumstance and the graduates left the auditorium to be joined by their families and friends. as . ,.......,.. :ass . X, cc.
