This is the third year that student council has been a part of the school program. On November 1, 1956, a formal installation of officers and members was held. This was an impressive, spiritual service in which all members participated. The oaths were taken by each member of the council, and our president, Marlin Jackson, received his oath from the supervising principal, Mr. Martz. In turn, Marlin Jackson gave the oaths to the other officers. The maior activity of the council has been to support a foreign child for one year through the Foster Parent's Plan. The money was raised through donations from school clubs and a food sale held during Brotherhood Week. Our other activities have been: providing supervision in honor study halls, operating an efficient hall patrol, posting a bulletin board, sponsoring a Halloween dance, and sending get-well cards and flowers to sick and hospitalized students. Another high- light was the formation of the student safety council which conducted activities such as poster and slogan contests and a dance. This council did much to promote safety consciousness throughout the school. Again this year student council furnished awards for winning teams of the intramural basketball program. The maior income for the year was from noon-time candy sales. Our council was very active this year and worked hard to promote its activities. The students are to be commended for the support and co-operation they have given the council and the school is grateful for the efficient direction given by Mrs. Toms. Second rovv: Thames, Wingert, Rahauser, Walck, Hollinger. Front: Walker, Henson. Surrounded by many pictures, lay-out pages, ink, paste, and rulers, the Staff has seen the pages of THE CONOCOCHEAGUE slowly materialize. Directed by Margaret Walker, the Business Manager, the members solicited advertisements and vvrote letters to finance the costs. Each one, in turn, had articles to write, slogans to formulate, names to spell correctly, and deadline dates to meet. The Staff is grateful to Mrs. Baer and the members of the Junior Bookkeeping class vvho solicited subscriptions in each of the homerooms and vvho will distribute, proudly, we hope, the books late in May. Sally Walck, the Editor, assisted by Judith Hollinger, thought, planned and worked many afternoons and evenings. Mary Hartman, the Sports Editor, had able assistance from staff members as well as good athletes and the coaches. Kit Thames, the Art Editor, kept a watchful eye for artistic design. Joan Rahauser, the only member of the iunior class, planned the junior pages. Class Secretaries wrote the class histories. Staff typists were always busy, and even begging other typists to contribute time and abilities. Miss Phillippy, the Advisor, used all her resources to develop abilities among Staff members and to keep a high standard for each section. Thus, many members of Greencastle-Antrim High School and especially all mem- bers of the Staff have cooperated to publish another issue of THE CONOCO- CHEAGUE that is full of memories to be cherished long after high school days are over. Its mem- bership is composed of a group selected from about one-hundred and thirty voices who tried out indivi- dually in the fall of each year. Our school had the privilege of being host to the Franklin County Choral Festival on March 13, 1956 when eight schools and over two-hundred voices par- ticipated. All will remember rehearsals at the Fire Hall, Community Room, and the Evangelical Lutheran Church. And the thrill of hearing the final renditions in our auditorium was great! Now we are looking forward to the County Festival when twenty Glee Club members participate at James Buchanan High School on March 7, 1957. The Spring Concert, during Music Week, by our own Band and Glee Club gave recognition to the power of music, and beautiful refrains from many of the selections are often hummed.
