We, the class of 1950 of Greencastle High School, have at last attained that goal for which we have been striving during the past four years. Suddenly we find that all those busy and ex- citing days are about to end. Let us, one more time, review the high spots of our high school days. Today, the third of September, 1946, eighty-six eager, excited freshman filed into Main Room. Under the helpful guidance of Mr. Conrad and Mr. Gingrich we were soon settled into our new environment. As the months rolled by high school soon became an integral part of our lives. We elected Norman Walck for our president and Orville Forsythe for our secre- tary-treasurer. The social highlight of the year was the Christmas party. On September 2, 1947, we returned to school filled with burning ambition. We weren't greenies any more! For our officers we elected Wilbur Lantz, president, Norman Walck, vice-president, Nancy Hess, secretary, Harvey Rice, treasurer. We also chose Dolores Geddes and Robert Zullinger to represent us on Student Council. We were quite active this year. We presented a play entitled Grapes for Dinner . The cast was composed entirely of Sophomores. Our boys and girls were active in sports. The Sophomore Chorus participated in the Christmas program. The social events of this year were a trip to Cold Springs and a picnic at Cowan's Gap. A Again, on September 7, 1948, the class of 1950 returned to school. What a different feeling we had this year .... so much to do! We started by electing officers. Chosen were: president, Norman Walck, vice-president, Joe Copenhaverg secretary, Evelyn Shinhamg treasurer, Norma Hartman. Nancy Hess and Eugene Coldsmith were elected to Student Council. Then we began having the thrills that belong to a Junior only: we ordered our class rings, we chose our class colors, motto, flower, cap, pennant, and emblem. Later we selected our class song. Many good ones were submitted. It was a difficult choice. We decided on the one written by Geraldine Statler. As our crowning glory we presented, on March 31 and April 1, our class play Here We Go Again under the direction of Mrs. Lehman. It was a great suc- cess. - Now, finally, on September 7, 1949, we returned for our last year of education at G. H. S. We found our number drastically reduced from eighty-six to forty-six. We had the distinc- tion of being the smallest senior class for a number of years, however, good things come in small packages. We began by presenting our class play on December 8 and 9. This year we broke the bands of tradition and presented an entirely different type of play. It was Jane Eyre , a period play adapted from Charlotte Bronte's immortal novel. Under the patient and skillful direction of Mrs. Lehman we made it a tremendous success. Every one seemed to really enjoy the change. We had our class pictures taken at Russel1's Studio. We looked for- ward to our last assembly program, our Washington trip and Commencement exercises. A During these four years we have actively participated in sports and clubs and have tried to keep our scholastic standards high. But time marches on and although we are saddened at the thought of leaving each other, the time to part has come. We will take the knowledge we gained, enter the uncertain world and try to live up to and teach the excellent principles we have been taught. We will strive to make our dear Alma Mater proud of us in future years.
