Brewer, Hlld look up some of my old classmates. Naturally, the first place I went for news was The Campus Retreat, owned and operated by Dick Gaddis. While Dick was telling me all about the success of Harold I-Ienry's used car lot, Jalopy Junction, Bob Helmuth came in and asked if he could put up an election poster over the pinball machine. Helmuth is the new political boss of Greencastle, and he is working very hard to get Mary Ann Harsh elected president of the United States. Mary Ann, whose slogan is Never Underestimate the Power of a VVoman, divides her time betwen campaigning and hr husband, Professor Ivan R. Finfrock, the disitnguished scientist who recently discovered a method of making cigarettes from salt water and alfalfa. Her opponent, Honest Earl Leckron, is giving her a stiff fight, since he is able to get all the women's votes. His slogan is Lighten Your Life With Leckronln As I left the Campus Retreat, who should come by in a brand new atomic convertible but Mamie C Hot Stuffvj Metcalf, who has just divorced her fourth hsuband, and is now being seen at Morter's Pool Parlor with Dick Myers, wealthy gentleman farmer. She stopped, and showed me the latest copy of Peek, which had a picture of John Holbert on the cover. John has been the sensation of New York since he opened on Broadway in the musical comedy, Love 'Em and Leave 'Emf' According to the gossip columnists, he dates a different chorus girl every night, though he is supposed to be engaged to his leading lady. Mamie took me out to get a look at the new city hospital, which is run by Frances Swisher and ex-Captain Janet Phillippy, who has recently resigned from the Naval Nurse Corps. Betty Lindsay took me through the children's division, which is supervised by her and Geraldine Buchanan, and I was really impressed. Just as we were leaving, John Koons, who is painting the addition to the Zullinger house fit seems that Joanne and Tom have decided they need a larger nurseryj, came rushing up the street. He said that he'd just heard on a news broadcast over his vest pocket radio that Charles Bert's super stratospheric rocket ship had lin- ally landed on the moon after a three year voyage. Sharp has gleam in his eye and is sharpening his knife. It's lucky John could control his appetite. By this time it was getting late, so after Fighting my way past the Five o'clock rush at Binkley's Drug Store, I walked on down past Hoffman's Sports Arena and the Ziegler Dairy to the parking lot. Imagine my surprise when I saw John Bingaman polishing my car! He explained that he was doing it free to all the cars in town to get publicity for his new garage. While he finished the job, I dined at Cowan's Cafe, where the featured boogie-woogie singer was Betty Burke. Then I climbed in my car, stepped on the starter, and departed for the wide open spaces. At last, we the class of 1947 of Greencastle High School, Franklin County, State of Penn- sylvania, are at the end of the road which leads in two directions. Future Farmers of America Dear Diary, April 15, 1947 Another successful year for the Greencastle chapter of the Future Farmers of America is drawing to a close. One of our most successful activities was the tomato raising project, sponsored hy the Greencastle Packing Co. Our president, Glenn Hykes, took first place and was awarded a cash prize of ten dollars and a wonderful three-day, expense-paid trip to New York City. The Citizens National Bank sponsored a hog project for the cluh. This year Glenn Eykes won a second place with the club entry in the brood sow division at the Fulton County air. I took a quick glance in the mirror and was rather scared at the character that was staring me in the face. VVhen I opened the door of the gymnasium, I was filled with wonder. What a turnout! Some came in their pajamas. others as horrible looking hags, some wearing their formals and still others wearing street clothes. I was handed a paper with Mutt written on it and was told to hunt jeff as my partner for the Grand March. I saw that every one had the same task. VVhen we all had our part- ners we proceeded with the t'Grand March. Here many of these strange characters won prizes. VVe then tried our luck in some of the games. First I stepped on a pair of scales and found that I was about 100 pounds overweight. Next, by winning on the VVheel of Fortune I got a free trip to the moon. Also, the lucky people in playing Bingo had their fortunes told. KI took a peep at our fortune teller and found no other than Miss Phillippyl. VVe then formed a semi-circle and were entertained further by our barber shop quartette. This was formed by the melodious voices of John Holbert, John Hoffman, Richard Cline and Richard Brechbiel. Also for excitement we had a prize right, which turned out to be a dirty one. By this time everyone was ready for refreshments. Our food, which was really deli- cious, was supplied by Miss Oellig and her Jr. Home lic. Girls. After everyone was finished eating, we danced, This made a wonderful conclusion to the party. After doing a little inquiring l found out that the grand evening entertainment was plan- ned by Mr. Gingrich and Mr. Weagly. Friday we come up against one of our old rivals, Scotland. Although we havn't much height, there is still some hope for a winning streak in the near future. VVe have won all our the end of live innings because of rain. The score was Z-1. This made Mercersbnrg and Green- castle tie for first place. So far none of us know our parts completely. We have chosen the Carolers. The prompters are Mary Myers and Geraldine Statler, and announcer is joanne McBeth. Dear Diary, December 12, 1946 Today as the Seniors have given up their lease on the auditorium we are able to rehearse there. As we insist on drinking cokes and eating pretzels and other things, all Mrs. Lehman does is to tell us to finish our lunch. We are all having fun over practicing. Only a few more rehearsals! Dear Diary, December 19, 1946 Today we have the dress rehearsal. Mr. Grove gave the grades permission to come over to see it. Dorothy Swisher is to work the lights and also be a caroler. Mimi forgot the matches and we had to throw them across in front of the window. The grades roared. That was about the only mistake. All the rest of the clay we went to our classes with makeup on.
