ix enior Cfafnd .MA for? Realizing that our high school days are nearly over, we look back over the past four years spent in our Alma Mater, remembering many happy experiences, and wondering at the brevity of those four years. September 8, 1942, was the day on which we ninety-nine freshmen entered the halls of G. H. S. VVe were rather bashful and timid at first, but before very long we learned our way around the building and the routine of high school life. VVe elected our officers and entered into the activities offered. Our class also en- joyed a Christmas Party held in Main Room. On September 20, 1943, we came back to school from our summer vacation eager to begin the new year. We were no longer the shy freshmen of the previous year, but proud, confident sophomores. A Most of our class was in the Sophomore Glee Club, and many were initiated into the Senior Hi-Y and Tri-Hi-Y organiza- tions. At Christmas we had a party, where we exchanged gifts and sang Christ- mas Carols, after which refreshments were served. The Class of 1946 entered G. H. S. once more, on September 5, this time as upper classmen, willing and anxious to take a larger part in the school activities. In Qctober, our class selected and ordered rings, which finally arrived during Eas- ter vacation. ln December, a meeting was held to select our class colors, class flower, and class motto. VVe chose the words Helen Smith had written for our class song. In February, we chose our hats and pennants. VV e then concentrated all efforts on our class play. After much discussion, Old Docv was chosen and was successfully presented on April I2 and 13, under the direction of Mrs. Conrad. On September 4, 1945, we returned to G. H. S., hardly able to realize we were really seniors. We were happy and thankful that the war had ended. This being our last year, we planned to make it our best year. In a few weeks we elected class officers. The play COl111HllIllCC selected Don't Take My Penny for our dramatic production of the year, to be directed by Mrs. Lehman. The play was scheduled for December 6 and 7, but had to be postponed until December I3 and 14 due to illness of several players. In November, it was decided to have our pictures taken at Kelley's Studios, and the next month found the seniors very busy getting photographed. VVe celebrated Christmas by having a party in the gym. We are now making final preparations for Commencement and are eagerly looking forward to that exciting time. However, it saddens us to think we will have to leave many of our high school friends. During the years we have spent in high school, members of our class have been unusually well represented in the field of sports. Our class is proud of its contribution to athletic achievements. As we go into the world of tomorrow, let us always remember our motto. The future is what we make itf' May we exert all our power and abilities toward making our world one of human understanding, world brotherhood, and peace.
