Kliksi-1N1cR Q I T .33 .xgfnlfrim ownd L70 I 74 I -194 I The little bit of lreland in the midst of the origi- nal Lancaster County, formed in 1729, was duly recog- nized at the May term, 19-ll. of the quarter sessions court of Lancaster. The order of the court erected Antrim Township. in honor of Mother Antrim from which many of our Scotch-lrish settlers had migrated. Forty-one years later when a center was desired, Greencastle was laid out and named. probably, for a beloved spot of green in County Donegal, ireland. Though the hrst school built in the township was the Enoch Rrown one. the Brown's Mill school, hrst built about 1780, has had a continuous record, however in different buildings. The Old Brown's Mill School, shown in the cut and erected in 1836 for school and church, is a familiar landmark. Then in 1922 the Browns Mill Consolidated school, opened un- der Mr. Frank M. Smith's capable supervision, began a new era in Antrim's educational system. For the 1940--ll term, 308 boys and girls are enrolled in this school, From the schools of Antrim and neighboring townships come l89 pupils for the upper four years in our Greencastle High School. Transportation to high school has become diffi- cult, therefore this year Mr. Lcininger is operating three busses that permit approximately OO of our stu- dents to have more comfortable transportation for a reasonable fee. This marks another dehnite step in Antrim's educational career. --- ----:gif v--fi-11-r-vm:-r.fi..q1 .rK ifvif,f-
