WEST UPSETS HINTON IN OVERTIME A 15-yard pass from quarterback Dennis Burns to Danny Windon did the trick for winning this hard fought game. MONTGOMERY OVERCOMES CAVALIERS With injuries at key defensive positions seriously hampering the Cavalier effort, West dropped their se- cond game of the season. The lead changed hands several times in the first two quarters leaving the half- time score a narrow 17-16 lead by West. Montgomery shut West out in the second half while scoring twice in the fourth quarter to make the final tally, Montgomery 30, West 17. ANSTED DEFEATS WEST West suffered the first defeat of the season, losing to Ansted 28 to 14. Ansted jumped to a 22 to 8 lead during the first half. After a scoreless third period, West put the ball into the end zone a second time. The final score of the game came on a 12 yard run by Ansted, putting the game out of reach for the Cavaliers. T Y S .HSE CAVALIERS DOWN WARRIORS West scored their second victory defeating Pocahontas County 27-O in Warrior territory. The scoring' was opened by West in the second quarter with 14 points and continued with two more TD's later in the game. The defense did a superb job blank- ing Pocahontas County offense. WE ST TOPS LUMBERJACKS Could it have been the new field or the new surroundings for the Greenbrier West Cavaliers as they won their opening game against Richwood with a score of 22-7? Even though Richwood scored in the first quarter, Greenbrier West came through in the second, hitting paydirt for all its 22 points.

The fourth quarter proved successful for the West offense as Bill Bob Stroud scored the first touchdown on a five-yard run. A fumble recovery set up the next score with Vernon Jones hitting paydirt for West. The final touchdown was scored by Dennis Burns as he carried the pigskin across the goal line.
