MONTGOMERY OVERCOMES CAVALIERS With injuries at key defensive positions seriously hampering the Cavalier effort, West dropped their se- cond game of the season. The lead changed hands several times in the first two quarters leaving the half- time score a narrow 17-16 lead by West. Montgomery shut West out in the second half while scoring twice in the fourth quarter to make the final tally, Montgomery 30, West 17. ANSTED DEFEATS WEST West suffered the first defeat of the season, losing to Ansted 28 to 14. Ansted jumped to a 22 to 8 lead during the first half. After a scoreless third period, West put the ball into the end zone a second time. The final score of the game came on a 12 yard run by Ansted, putting the game out of reach for the Cavaliers. T Y S .HSE CAVALIERS DOWN WARRIORS West scored their second victory defeating Pocahontas County 27-O in Warrior territory. The scoring' was opened by West in the second quarter with 14 points and continued with two more TD's later in the game. The defense did a superb job blank- ing Pocahontas County offense. WE ST TOPS LUMBERJACKS Could it have been the new field or the new surroundings for the Greenbrier West Cavaliers as they won their opening game against Richwood with a score of 22-7? Even though Richwood scored in the first quarter, Greenbrier West came through in the second, hitting paydirt for all its 22 points.

Steve Isaacs Vernon Jones Fred O'Dell Steve Isaacs was a three-year member of the Cavalier team. Playing regular offensive center during his junior and senior years. Doc was one of two Cavalier team members receiving honorable mention on the three honor teams: All-Southern, All-New River'Valley Conference, and Class AA All-State. Leading' ground gainer during his senior year on offense was Vernon Jones, another three-year member of the Cavalier team. Vernon missed part of his sophomore and junior years due to injuries. Vernon was the regular fullback and defensive end during his senior year. Fred O'Dell was a part of the Cavalier team his junior and senior years. He lettered both years, and started as a defensive end his senior year. Harold Walters, a three-year team member, played regular tackle during his junior year, and he was a regular fullback and inside linebacker his senior year. Harold was named to the All-New River Valley Conference Team as a linebacker and also received honorable mention on the All-Southern Team. Clifford Wicks played three years for the Cavaliers. He was regular offensive split end and defensive halfback during his junior and senior years. Clifford was one of two Cavalier team members receiving honorable mention on all three of the honor teams, in- cluding All-Southern, All-New River Valley Conference, and All-State. NORTHFORK DEFEATS THE CAVALIERS Northfork downed the Cavaliers with a score of 37-6. Bill Bob Stroud was the lone Cavalier to hit paydirt, ear- ning it in the second quarter. Stroud took the ball over from the five-yard mark, and a try for the extra point failed, leav- ing the lone TD on the Cavaliers' scoreboard. CAVALIERS MAUL MT. HOPE West opened the scoring as Dennis Burns passed to Bill Bob Stroud for a 40 yard touchdown pass with the extra point failing. Scoring' was continued for West as they left Mount Hope scoreless at the half 24-0. The second quarter was a runaway for the Cavaliers as they scored two more touchdowns with one extra point making the final score 37-6. WEST UPSETS HINTON IN OVERTIME A 15-yard pass from quarterback Dennis Burns to Danny Windon did the trick for winning this hard fought game. Both defenses allowed neither team to score in regular time. West scored on a 15 yard pass from quarterback Dennis Burns to his receiver, Danny Windon, in overtime to defeat the Bobcats 6-O.
