W OF GREE BRIER MILITARY SCHOOL CAdopted and subscribed to by the Administration and Facultyl And Jem: increared in u'iJdom and rlature, and in favor with God and man. -Luke 2:52. We interpret this to mean that education is the process of individual growth involving four es- sential factors: the intellectual, the physical, the spiritual, and the social. INTELLECTUAL We believe in the attainment of the full capa- bilities of the mind through the discipline and direction of the mental processes. All of a stu- dent's experiences are educative, and each student should, to the best of his ability, form an ac- quaintance with the chief areas of human knowl- edge and skills. These should be taught pleasant- ly, forcefully, and, if necessary, even forcibly. The intellectual development of a student is conditioned upon the opportunity to and the en- vironment for study. Believing that the faculty is the heart of the school, every effort should be made to obtain instructors who will both inspire and teach their pupils to reason logically and to act intelligently. PHYSICAL We believe in the ancient precept, A sound mind in a sound body. An educated man must understand the necessity for and the way to keep the human machine in good physical condition if he is to make full use of his abilities. There- fore both an understanding of the structure and characteristics of the body and the formation of good health habits are essential to a well rounded education. We believe that, especially in the formative years, this result is best accomplished through a combination of skillful teaching, a well planned daily routine, regular physical exercises, and super- vised play. SPIRITUAL We believe in Christian education, in the in- herent values of a spiritual emphasis on the edu- cation of a young man, without regard to man- made creeds or denominations. We feel he should know the finite and temporal and come into closer harmony with the infinite and eternal. A com- prehension of religion reveals the beauty and meaning of life. We think the Bible should be taught as living literature and the revealed word of God. SOCIAL We believe there is a definite connection be- tween character development and formal educa- tion. A man must learn to obey before he is fit to command. The social phase of education in- volves a sense of responsibility to one's self and to his fellow men. A young man should develop a social outlook and a way of living that will lead to a satisfying and helpful relationship with others. We believe these four essential factors-the in- tellectual, the physical, the spiritual, and the so- cial-are the foundation of a well-rounded edu- cation, and thus lead to the end product of all education, a satisfying life.
