As it is a product of hard but loving labor, it is hoped it will be appreciated fully; for the staff has put forth much effort. In this Annual we have tried to make the events of the past years stand out as climaxes to very happy school activities, many to be well remembered as time goes on. Also we wish to express our appreciation for the help and co- operation of Johnny Davis, a sophomore boy, who has done the art work for our Annual. With the hope that everyone will enjoy this book as much as we have enjoyed the creation of it, we present the 1956 Mountain Breeze. FIRST LINEMEN 1. BROWN CASSELL - Senior-Quarter Back- 3 years- Captain-All-State 3rd Team. One of the finest quarter backs in the history of football at Green Bank High School. 2. RONALD MONK - Senior-End-3 years . Excel- lent pass receiver. Outstanding offensive player. 3. GEORGE JACKSON - Senior-Half Back-2 years. Rapidly developed into one of the most deceptive and devastating ball carriers. 4. DAVE TYSON - Senior-Tackle-2 years. One of the most rugged players. With more exper- ience he could have been an outstanding player in 1 955. 5. DAVE CROMER - Senior-Tackle-3 years.’ In- juries plagued his participation and kept him from reaching the peak of ability. 6. DONALD STARCHER - Senior - Half Back-3 years. Inactive most of senior year because of injury. One of the finest all-around players. 7. LYNDELL BROOKS- Senior-Ha If Back- 2 years. Had great desire to succeed. One hun- dred twenty pounds of dynamite. Leading scorer this past season. 8. TOM MATHENY - Junior-Full Back-2 years. Had great desire to play. Good ball carrier. Handicapped by injuries. 9. PHIL KERR - Junior-Center-3 years. Should develop into a great center. Has size and abi- lity. Excellent defensive linebacker. 10 . JOHN GAINER - J unior -Guard - 3 years - very aggresive. Pound for pound Green Bank's tough- est football player. 11. THURMAN SAMPSON - Junior-Guard-2 years. Can take and give punishment. With Gainer Green Bank was given the finest guards in the Valley. 12. EDDIE SHEETS - Junior-End-3 years. Two opposing coaches called h i m the best defensive end they had seen all year . Should be even great- er next year. 13. SAM TAYLOR - Junior-End-2 years. Out- standing defensive player. Has abilityto become good all-around player. 14. ALLEN MAHAFFEY - Junior-Half Back-2 years. Lost most of season through scholastic difficulties. Has possibilities of becoming one of Green Bank's best broken field runners. 15. JOHN BOSLEY - Sophomore-Tackle -2 years. All-State First Team. Only Sophomore to make All-State Team. Has ability to become Green Bank’s greatest football player. I, Maxine Ha rmon, bequeath my love for money and new cars to anyone who can combine both and have as much fun as I have had. I, Colleen Hughes,will my hours of study in MacBeth to the seniors of 1956-57; for if they don’t improve, they certainly will need it. I, Emery Wyatt, do here-by bequeath my curly hair to Kale Sage. Boy, take care of it. PROGNOSTICATIONS 1 . Caroline Tacy still isn’t an old woman at the age of 60; we now see her coming into the ring as the world’s champion bull fighter. 2. In 5 years we see Peggy Ann Tharp as a law abiding citizen, (we think it is because she married a cop.) Right now she is busy with several little troop- ers for the future police force. 3. After 10 years we see Joyce Rexrode still rais- ing Dill Pickles , but, unfortunately, not for factory use. 4. Ruth Ann Grogg won the Miss America title for 1968, and Murrel died from rejoicing. 5. Nancy Jackson died at a ripe old age from star- vation by depending on D. P. A. 6. Ella Mae Shields hasn’t been seen for ages, so we guess she is still looking for the Fountain of Youth. 7. Mona Kelly will soon be promoted to foreman of the Mechanic Department in a rayon plant. 8. Evyleen Murphy will soon have the strength to win a box of cigars by ringing the bell at the Fair. 9. Cora Lee McLaughlin has been spending her leisure hours inventing wings for cars. 10. After completing 10 years in a beautician’s school, Jean Lambert is Marlon Brando's hairdress- er. 11. Maxine Harmon was guest for $64 ,000 question in I960. Since she was so inclined to want money, she stole the safe instead of trying to answer the question. 12. Ruth Ann Rankin is going to Manhattan Island to be a ferry boat operator. 13. Shirley Lambert is going to be first baseman for the Brooklyn Dodgers. 14. Gladys Lambert is getting a job at the Tannery so she can be with Chub more often. 1 5. Nancy Wenger finally took over Liberace’s T. V. program . 16. Sylvia Moore had been a missionary in India for the past 10 years. 17. HelenBrown was last seen boarding a plane to White Plains, New York, where she will be found in the future. 18. Mary Simmons has been boxing ever since she was a freshman at Green Bank. She now holds the title of the Woman’s Light Weight Championship. 19. Georgie Curry married Gene Nelson and now has a dozen boys , all living in Georgia . She is teaching them how to pick peaches. 20. Betty Vance married John Rexrode for which she is sorry because she has to work to keep her fam- ily of four. 21 . After so many heart breaks, Nancy Wilfong finally found a husband but still no money. 22. Suellen Taylor finally married the man of her dreams. Now they own half of Florida. 23. Colleen Hughes is very happy after setting up a Grogg-shop in Bartow. 24. The lastwe heard of Bessie Simmons she was a stowaway on the USS Entenedor headed for Europe. 25. Phyllis Purkey is still inventing excuses to get back in Sociology. 26. Charlotte Dahmar will soon be raising little captains for Uncle Sam’s Air Force. 27. Ruth Collins and Mary Ellen Nicely (after many lessons from Mr. Harold Crist) have finally learned how to plant corn at Circleville by shooting it in place with a shotgun. 28. Anna Belle Sheets is a teacher at West Vir- ginia University. Her class is made up of one student only, Charles Bryant. 29. Kyle Cassell became assistant butcher to Ted Blackhurst after living with Gwennie for 10 years. 30. The last we heard of James Sheets he was making a fortune selling moonshine someplace on Back Mountain. 31. Nothing has been heard of Brown Cassell since Caroline invited her mother to live with them. 32. After Lyndell Brooks gained 200 pounds, he was chosen to play quarterback for the famous “Mos- cow Salt-licks.’’ 33. George Jackson, wanting to gain world fame, tried to sail the ocean in a sieve. They’re still drag- ging the Atlantic for him. 34. Poor Bob Brubaker lost all his hair at the age of 33 and then went crazy trying to invent a way to grow some more. 35. Dave Cromer went to Hollywood to try to be a second Davy Crockett. On his way to Hollywood he grew a mustache and was signed up for Clark Gable. 36. The last we heard of Ben Elbon was that he was on his way to Alaska to get away from his 48 wives. He had one in each state. 37. Dick Galford turned gangster and killed all his former teachers. He was being pursued by a political posse. 38. Ronald Gray, planning on being a 20 year Navy man,got seasickthe firstweek atsea and hasn’ttouch- ed water since. 39. Bill Jordan became a millionaire when he in- vented his “ Weedy-Fag” cigarette. It had no tobacco, no tar, and no nicotine. It was all filter. 40. Ronald Monk became coach of the All Ameri- can Redheads but went crazy during the first month of work. You see------they all looked like Mary Ryder. 41 . Dale Mullenax moved West and joined up with some cowboys. He can now draw faster than Roy Rogers. 42. Murrel Mullenax married Ruth Ann and settled down in Green Bank. He is now the proud father of 10. 43. Terry Sage, becoming angry with the world, enlisted in the Foreign Legion. He is now an expert at riding camels. 44. After Wayne Sheets married Connie, he took boxing lessons so that he could get out at night. You see---she’s bigger than he is. 45. In 1966 Jerry Long set out for the Moon in a souped up Chevrolet rocketship to see if there were any girls on it. There must have been because he hasn’t returned. 46. Donald Starcher, after getting on the good side of father, finally married Linda Sampson. Now he is wondering how to get on the good side of her mother. 47. George Tallman went to Siberia and opened up a beer joint. He says all the salt there is free. 48. Dave Tyson became a professional hobo and hitched rides around the world three times. 49. Bill Vandevender went insane and was taken to an asylum. They had to take him away from there because he was driving the crazy people crazier. 50. Emery Wyatt, a hermit, dug himself a two room cave on Cheat Mountain. Every now and then he comes to Dunmore for razor blades. 51 . Kenneth Tallman, a noted scientist, discovered a drug that would let one live for ever. Poor “Red”; he tried it on himslef first, and it killed him right off the bat.
