SENIOR CLASS HIS TOR Y On September sixth, nineteen hundred and forty three, twenty-two green freshmen entered the halls of G. V. H. S. At our first class meeting we organized and elected Fonda Lahman as president, Ike Baysinger vice president, Marvin Dean as the secretary and treasurer. We chose Evelyn Parr as our student council representative, Carrie 1VIcCarrio moved away at the beginning of the year and Lyman Urish left at the end of the first year. This left twenty members in our Sophomore class. We were less bashful this year and it did not take us long to organize with Evelyn Parr as president, Dale Drake vice president, Ike Baysinger as secretary-treasurer. Our boys have been very active in athletics and the girls have been very active in school activities. We were very unfortunate in losing three members at the end of our sophomore year. They were Leonard Aldrich, Etta Forbes and Carl Waymire. The junior year was for the most of us the hardest one. The seventeen members left in our class were by now very much at home in the halls of G.V.H.S. The officers this year were elected and they were all boys with Dick Chitwood president, Bob Sloter, vice president, and Ike Baysinger, secretary-treasurer. We were told that in our junior year we were to earn enough money to provide for the Junior-Senior banquet and also to plan for it. The banquet was a lot of fun. At the start of our junior -year Vauna Morris was missing, and during the year we lost Fonda Lahman and Marvin Dean. This left fourteen students to form our Senior Class Grace Hutton and Marvin Kemper joined our class for their senior year. The class elected boys as officers again. joe Bussone, president, Ike Baysinger, vice president, Bob Sloter as secretary-treasurer. CLASS WILL. C LASS PR OPI-IECY AS the rocket ship, .in which I was riding, sped down the runaway or the Green Valley Airport, I noticed hundreds of people getting out of planes. When the ship came to a stop and I got off Ilnoticed the hude-crowdf of excited people were waiting for tazicabs. The taxis seemed to be all headed in the same direction. I became very curious, so I hailed a taxi and told the driver to follow the others. The cab stopped in front of one of the largest buildings I have ever seen. Across the front of the building, in large letters, was National Convention . I was very much surprised when the door keeper handed me a program which stated that my two old classmates of 4-7 were presidential candidates. The first speech was to be given by Thelma Knaakvwho was running for fist woman president on the Democratic ticket and the other speech was to be given by Marvin Kemperwho was running on the Republican ticket. As I read on I noticed Marvin's platform stated that if he were elected he would have one of the most famous engineers of the world, joe Bussone, construct a bridge which would span the Atlantic Ocean from London to New York. This bridge would be called the Bussone Bridge. just before the signals were given ior the speeches to be broadcast and taken to the homes by television, I saw a person hand Miss Knaak a slip of paper, The young lady lookediery familiar and Ifound, upon inquiring, that she was the famous secretary and companion of Miss Knaak. She also was a former classmate, Josephine Burns. As I was leaving the convention, I bumped into an old schoolmate, Bethel Wagner and her husband Ralph Schmitgall. They were in a hurry because they had -to catch the nine 0'cluck rocket ship to New York where upon their 'arrival they would board one of the famous honeymoon luxury liners commanded by Earl Hamann. I hailed a cab and asked the dirver if he knew of any vacancies in any hotels. He told me that he didn't know of any hotels but he knew of two men who were offering their large hunting resort as a place to stay. We drove to the north of town until we were well out in the country. We drove through one of the most beautiful forestswvhere wild game could be seen. and as we came to a stop in front of' a hush hnildins 1 Saw two familiar figures coming toijneet us. They were Dale Drake and Louis Thomas, owners of this famous hunting resort. I stayed there and before I left they told me that the old Nlackinaw river had been damned and a beautiful artificial lake had been formed on the land of their resort. They also told me that Bob Sloter had inherited a large amount of money and had a hugh cattle farm east of Green Valley. Dale told me I could find Glenn Ripper at the I-l1f01'mU-ti0I1 Building bali in the city and that people came from everywhere to seek in- formation from Glenn. They also told me ms famous secretary was Shirley Drake. As I walked out iof this building I noticed that across the street was a small but very 'stylish and modern beauty culture school operated by Grace Hutton. I walked on through the city, and across 'from the park I saw a beautifufcampus with hugh build- ings surrounding it., As I entered the main hall I met my old school pal, Betty Stout. She told me that she had been made head of the English department of that college.. She also told me that Dick Chitwood had just solved the great crime wave, as a F. B. I. agent. Betty told me that Ike Baysinger had joined the navy and while he was in the navy he went to Forestry College for four years and then he took a iob as head ranger over the Forest Rangers of Amerie... The followin class officers were elected: Orrie Woodruff, President, Ray Winner, Vice-Presidentg john Goeken, Secretaryg jim Ary, Treasurer. The class was well represented in G.A.A., library, and all athletics. The distinguished members of the junior class on the Student Council were jim Ary, and Russel Crosby. SOPHOMORES During the summer the Sophomores turned from a dark to a light green. When Freshies they had twenty members, but they lost Harold Griffin to work, Pete Vetter to Perkin High School and Patricia Carr to Princeville High School by way of the village of Edelstein. The following class officers were elected: Burr Dickerson, Presidentg Bud Schureman, ViceiPresident5 Duane Heren, Secretary-Treasurer. The Sophomore class was well represented in G.A.A., library, and all sports. The elite members of the class on the Student Council were Duane Heren and Carl Hamilton. FRESHMEN . The Freshrnen class started out with ten members. They lost one when Marilyn Christie moved to Pekin. In the first class election the following officers were elected: Frances Clauser, President, Shirley Baysinger, Vice-President, Joanne Runyon Sec- retaryg and james Skagga, Treasurer. All of the Freshmen girls belong to the G.A.A. and they had a good representation on the honor roll each six weeks. Frances Clauser was elected a cheer-leader. Richard Watts was the only Freshman going out for sports and he played basketball, but he also did a good job of parlor sitting for a Freshman. Jim Skaggs and Richard Watts were the baseball managers last fall. An event which will stand out in the minds of the Freshmen is the day which was spent at the Hartwig sale. The class sold sandwiches, coffee, etc. l VY S7 X VV G67 QQ WAX AT H Here-Us-Holler-Hear-Us-Scream Locomotive- Locomotive G. V. Koch. Coach Koch was a star athlete and a graduate of Wittenburg College, Ohio. He was discharged from the ILS Nagy on August 31, 1946 and immediately started tutoring the Green Valley Hornets to another successful baseball season. The Hornets were successful in defeating their first five opponents, Deer Creek, Mackinaw, Delavan, Minier, and Hopedale, thus setting the stage for the championship game between Green Valley and Armington at Green Valley. The Armington Mustangs won by a score of 13 to 9, thus winning the championship. Lettermen returning were as follows: jim Ary, Carl Hamilton, joe Bussone, Roy Dickerson, Bob Sloter, Ike Baysinger, and Orrie Woodruff. Underclassmen filled in the team and of the fifteen boys on the squad, eleven won letters this year. The letter winners were as follows: Ike Baysinger, joe Bussone, Bob Sloter, Dale Drake, Dick Chitwood, johnny Goeken, jim Ary, Orrie Woodruff, Carl Hamilton, Burr Dickerson, and Duane Heren. The first five listed will not be back next year because they are members of the 194-7 graduating class. The underclassmen have the experience and the ability to carry on the Hornets' tradition of a successful baseball season. Three lettermen, Bussone, Baysinger, and Sloter were among these boys. We won some games and lost some and those we lost were, in the majority of cases, very, close games. At the close of the season, letters were awarded to the following: lvianagersz Louis Thomas, Russell Crosby, and Howard Harms. Ike Baysinger, senior forward and 3 letter man. Ike was very good on pivot shots, always played with the will to win, and never gave up until the game was over. joe Bussone, senior guard and 4- letter man. joe played very well both defensively allzdrzffensively. He will be remembered for his accurate long shots, and play making a 1 1 y. p Bob Sloter, senior forward and 3 letter man. Bob's left hand was good for many . baskets, and his free throw shooting was consistently good as his ball handling. johnny Goeken, junior center. This was john.ny's first letter. He will be back next year and his height will be needed. The experience he gained this year should make him very efficient next year. Carl Hamilton, sophomore guard. This was also Carl's first letter. His ability to fight for, and hawk the ball, and tie up larger opponents with it, will come in handy next year. The following reserves will, at the end of -this year have received small G. V.'s. It is probable that from this group will come next year's team: jim Ary, jim Bowlby, Bob Diess, Roy Dickerson, Duane Heren, Floyd Meeker, Bud Schureman and Orrie Woodruff. Others on the team are, Marlowe Clauser, Lewis Hamann, Donnie Hoeft, Larry Moehn, Marion Scott and Dick Watts. STUDENT COUNCIL Our Student Council was organized in 1937 to promote student-teacher cooperation and to give the student a part in preparing the student and school programs. The members are elected in the spring of the year to serve for the coming year, all except the Freshman who is elected at the beginning of the second semester of the current year. The Student Council was headed this year by Evelyn Parr, with Dale Drake as her Vice-President. Betty Stout was elected Secretary, and Dick Chitwood, the Treasurer. This year the representatives from the Senior Class were Dick Chitwood, Evelyn Parr, Dale Drake, and Betty Stout. From the juniors we had jim Ary, and Russell Crosby. The Sophomores were represented by Duane Heren and Carl Hamilton, and the Freshmen by Peggy Baysinger. The advisor was Mr. jones. All school parties and special assemblies were provided and planned for by the Student Council. They are working on a credit point system for all students participating in extra curricular activities. The credit points are to have some value toward one graduation credit. They make money by selling candy, coke and collecting scrap paper. Each Student Council member rendered his service in many ways: Evelyn Parr by taking tickets at basketball garnesg Dale Drake and Dick Chitwood by operating the coke machineg Jim Ary and Dale Drake by handling party decorationsg Betty Stout and Evelyn Parr by taking care of the food situation at partiesg Carl Hamilton, Duane Heren, and Russell Crosby, by preparing entertainment for the parties. Every Student Council member should receive a hand for the excellent job they did this year. LIBRARY Our library, operated by the students, is probably the most popular room in the building. It was there that many of us spent many happy hours studying and reading. Many new books were added in the library this year for the students reading pleasure. The librarians for 46-47 were: Dick C. Betty S. Evelyn P, Bud S, Lewis T., Donna W., Arletta S, and Helen W. Supervisor: Miss Gragg. G. A. A. Our G. A. It is a written and pictorial history of school life of Green Valley High School during 1946-47. It represents the work of Dick Chitwood', the editor and his staff. The Senior Class sincerely hopes that every one will enjoy this book and that it will bring back many happy memories now and in the years to come. GEE VEE SEE The Gee Vee See is our small newspaper issued and published by students every month. Nluch hard work is put forth by its Editor, Evelyn Parr, and the Assistant Editor, Arletta Schlyer. Mr. Lindsey and Miss Gragg are the advisors, Mr. Lindsey checks for typing mistakes. and Miss Gragg makes English corrections. Our newspaper keeps the students posted on what is happening around school. It is also distributed around town for the benefit of the people who do not have children in high school, so they will know what is happening in Green Valley High. We exchange our paper with other schools and in return receive their paper. The following students are on the Gee Vee See staff: Editor ........ Evelyn Parr Reporters ....... Thelma K.
