In september of 19 O forty two exuberant boys and glrls entered 'The Halls of Anowledge', at Green High School Mr Strehle was our helpful counselor We chose Jack Selbee, Jack Miller, margaret Cheek, and darold Herron to help Mr Strehle carry out the important problems we reallzed would confront us We Nere very sorry to lose Bill: Trip lett, Joyce Stevens, Paul Nom ck Wanda Otworth and Betty Stapleton we were very proud of the number of boys and girls who took part in basketball, baseball, and cheerleading The following year the remaining thirty seven boys and girls came from Sciotoville joined us Our sponsor was Mr McCall To asslst him we chose Harold Herron Frank Lavender, Martina Ueboard, and Elroy Whitaker, Dale Arthurs, Eugene Leadlngham, Emil Thornsterry, Claris Blevlns, Ralph Jenkins, Ronald Porter, and Rose Green yielded to the temptation of outside interest, so they ave up their school life Hazel Thomas traded school life for married life During the second semester we welcomed Bonnle Barker from Hanglng Rock and Dave Jewell from Wheelersburg We were indeed proud of our brlllant World History student, Harold Herron, who placed tenth in the district Joyce Lavender represented our class in nThe Prince of Peacen Contest She was one of the win ners Many other students took scholarship tests and received tonor able mention The last week of lay found the halls of Green High quiet again, It was vacation time Returning the following September, we found thirty seven of our old class mates plus Shirley Fraley ready to continue with an exciting and wonderful year Mr Bitzer guided us through our junior year with the help of Dave Jewell, Bonnie Barker, and Gerald Richendollar, Clar ence Sprouse, Wanda Willlams, and Ruth Tackett Then we had bad luck, we lost two of our best students, Bonnie Barker and Carl Mullins received in return Don Pierce from Wheelersburg Our class worked on many memorable projects during the ,ear incl d ing our class play, House for Sale hauntedn Harold Herron placed twelfth in the state ln American History and took part in the HVo1ce of Democracyn Contest Then, too, we had a very enjoyable trip to the national capital, Washington, D C We returned to school in the fall of 1953 proud and happy t seniors We realized we were nearer to the goal we had set for our selves eleven years before We found twenty eight students enrolled Paul McCarty, Ruth Bell, Lowell Mullins, and Charles Russell joined us as new students Jack Selbee and Judy Cox chose married ltf before finishing school W found Rose Marcuum chose being Mrs Bailey and a student at the same time In a few weeks Lowell Mullins realized he couldn t undergo the sudden change from the armed forces to school life, so he quit school Mr Jewell took un the task of directing our activities in our senior year The officers who presided throughout the year were Janet Salyers, Frank Lavender, Charles Russell, and Joyce Lavender. Janet Salyers and Sue Blanton took part in the 'Prince of Peacen Contest. Our class was represented in the 'Voice of Democracyu Con test by Janet Salyers along with Harold Herron. Now as we are ready to go out into the world, we realize the sig nificance of our class motto, nEducation can't make us all leaders, but it can teach us which leader to follow.N We hope in the future we will be able to follow the right leaders and help to keep our coun try strong, great, and free.
