The A84 B.. hives when you got on STOQG. All is not lost. Edch of us hos d tdlent hidden within. Do you doodle in cldss? How dbout while on the phone'P Are you dt home with Pldy-Dough? Finger points? Pdstels9 lvldybe you ore d cdndiddte for OD drt CIGSS. There ore two rooms in Green Run thot ore dlwdys full of dctivity f lvlrs. Fdircloth's dnd Mrs. WOlCOVlCl't'S. These ore the drt rooms. People ore seen busily pointing, consult- ing one onother, or just sketching. There dre five levels of drt cldsses thot con be token. The lower levels stress the bdsic elements dnd principols of de- sign, ds oll ortists need d good founddtion. The students ore given mdny different dssign- ments which they interpret in their own individudl wdys. These first yeors in drt give o student d chdnce to explore vdrious styles, techniques, dnd mediums in order to determine the dred they ore best suited for After severdl yedrs, d stu- dent moy tdke on Art 5 cldss. lt is d college level course, ond d student must be recom- fi 2 AB Cruzin' mended by d tedcher. The closs is o step dwdy from the student's previous work in thdt it is conducted ds d college level studio course, with inde- pendent study under tedcher direction. By the end of the yedr, edch student must hdve d completed portfolio to sub- mit for odvdnced pldcemeht evdludtion. EGCD student works dt his or her own rdte, dnd is supported dnd encour- oged by clossmdtes. A moior emphdsis in the drt deportment is the desire to en- hdnce the school. This hos been done with murdls, post- ers, sports figures, dnd OD up- coming stciined gloss window. The informdl reldxed dtmos- phere is d notedble dsset dbout the drt cldsses. There is much open discussion dnd feedbdck. Even someone who hds no previous experience in drt would benefit from being involved with the Green Run drt depdrtment. If so for on this tour of the fine drts you still hdven't found your niche, mdybe you should look into bond. In the bdnd, stu- dents dre dble to, with some hdrd work dnd devotion, pldy one or even severdl instru- H d ments. You cdn pldy dnything from the drums to the flute to the trumpet. Edch instrument hos its own difficulty dnd vdri- ety of levels, or choirs. Green Run hos once dgdin this yedr kept the winning trddition dnd refilled the trophy cdse prdcti- cdlly on their own. The bond hos o good sound. We mode it through mdrching sedson with d few bod times. Some of the sum- mer prdctices dt the begin- ning of the yedr were d little unedsy, but dll of it pdid off with the recognition thot we've received, sdid lvliridm Gdr- cid. Mdrching moy seem eosy but if you've tried it you know it's hdrd work. lvldrching is very tiresome dnd puts d lot often- sion on the individudl. When you work dnd perform like this bond, your stdnddrds dre set high but you hdve to go higher dnd redch for the stdrs. lvlr. Collins sdys this is true for concert bond too. During con- oert sedson the some prdctic- ing, rehedrsing, dnd perform- ing go into the bdnd ds in the mdrching sedson. All Green Run bond members ore cd- pdble of the more mellow, more grdceful style chdnge of the concert sedson. This yedr d number of our students mode it to the regiondl bond but those who didn't will now hdve the nspirotion to try hdrder, prdc- rice more, dnd hope thot next yedr their efforts will pdy off ds they mdke themselves dnd the bond even better. This brings to OD end this yedr's fine drts report. We've looked dt the pledsdnt vocdl sound of the highly dccldimed lvlddrigdls, the hdrd work of drdmo, the bursting credtivity of the drt cldsses. dnd dword wining bond. Edch of the drts is outstdnding in its own wdy dnd edch produces students with hedlthy dttitudes, d constdnt smile, dnd mdny friends. If there's d little voice in you sdying it moy be worth d try, go for it! Who knows, you moy be the next Julie Andrews, Jdne Fondd, Michdeldngelo, or Beethoven. - Anne VGDUSTTWOSYSD - Kelly Butler - Didnd Koob - Lee Wilson - Amold Lucero 2 .4n Tho sialn-glossed sfalllon for the from of the school was dono by Leighton Smlih.

50 Cruzin' l-low many times has a teacher given you a WEIRD assignment? Well, if you think your teacher's strange, listen to this. lvlrs. Debbie Lankford stands on her desk and delivers a real fire and brimstone sbeech when her classes study Puri- tanism. An eggcellent assignment is given by lvlrs. Brenda Snead each semester in Effective Parenting. You have to carry an egg baby around with you for a week. The baby must be clothed and constantly watched. lf the egg breaks, you must write a paper on child abuse. With Mr. Johnson for govern- ment, you may be asked to call him Dictator Comrade, and pretend you are in a com- munist country. lf you have lVls. Lisa lvlitchell, you may be asked to take off your shoes and sneak around very quietly, as if you were actually hiding with Anne Frank from the Nazis. Mrs. Patti Pasko's assign- ments can really bug you, To get her students' imaginations going in the beginning of the year, she makes them pretend they're cockroaches and then write a paper on being a cockroach for a day! lvlr. Paul Lankford teaches his classes how to waltz!
