Senior Class History We, the seniors of 1965, began our twelve year educational journey in 1953. We are now nearing the end of that twelve year period of wonder-filled years, Along with the education came many glorious and exciting times bubbling with glamour and entertainment. Fortunate indeed are we, to have had Mr. Jack Chambers for sponsor of our senior class. We shall always be appreciative of his fine counseling and his geniality both as our principal and our sponsor. Guiding us through the past ten years as our superintendent, Hr. Virgil Oglevie has been exceedingly generous in giving us excellent leadership. We are particularly grateful for his deep interest in us as individuals and for his keen sense of humor which so often has lifted us from moments of despair to moments of cheer. Nine of today's seniors were fortunate enough to make the entire educational trip--Terry Yunt, Bonnie Ransdell, Larry Martin, John Lange, Wanda Hancock, Sharlette Durrill, Carolyn Easter, Phyllis Butterwick, and Ann Arnett. Through the years we have seen many dear friends come and go to other schools, other states, and this year to another continent. Shirley Freeman has spread her wings to far away Australia. Betwixt and between the first grade and high school Charles Elliott, Ronald Williams, Ronald Heinaman, and John O'Donlel joined our forces. Yes, we have seen much accomplished in our four high school years. Jim Johnson, Patricia Fiedler, and Ann Porter, who arrived our freshman year have contributed everything from high intellect to fun andifrolie. During thi! good year Sharlette Durrill and Charles Elliott each received a music letter. We were well represented in both music and athletic activities. With the arrival of our sophomore year we found ourselves a year older, and more or less, a year wiser. Certainly our share of recognitions and honors were bestowed upon us. Pat Fiedler was selected by the faculty to attend the Sophomore Pilgrimage. Pat achieved distinction by being the recipient of one of the finest tributes a high school student can receive, the Citizenship Award. Wanda Hancock received the much sought-after Jcsten's Homemaking Award, thus pronouncing her as the best homemaker of the year. John Lange, Ann Porter, and Sharlette Durrill continued our fine stream of recognitions by performing brilliantly in sports, and Sharlette was chosen for one of the cheerleaders. Phyllis Butterwick, Charles Elliott, and Sharlette Durrlll lettered in music. Joining us were Gene Mills, Shirley Freeman, Gary Bowlin, and George Dotson. Our junior year too we happily received numerous honors--in athletics, music, and dramatics. John Lange lettered in both basketball and softballg Ann Porter in cheerleading, volleyball, and softball: Phyllis Butterwiok in volleyball, and Pat Fiedler in cheerleading. Charles Elliott, Gene Mills, and Sharlette Durrill lettered in music. Wanda Hancock again received a coveted honor, this time the Crisco Homemaking Trophy, awarded the lost out- standing Home Economics student. Jim Scott, who has participated in both sports and music activities joined us this year. Pat Fiedler and Jim Scott were our Carnival King and Queen Candidates. The Junior-Senior Play, Chea er gg the Dozen was quite successfully produced with the help of Larry HIFFIET' yIIIs'B5Ft:rwick, Jim Scott, Gene Hills, Ronald Williams and Shirley Freeman, ass istant director . The grand finale of this junior year was the Junior-Senior banquet, whose theme was 'Stairway to the Stars.' This, our senior year, we are sorry to have lost four of our classmates. We are happy, however, to have added one, Herman Vcllmer. How as we are near the end of our high school days and are at the threshold of adult life, we hope that our futures will be even markedly better than our paste, for we fully realise that true happiness is achieved by setting higher goals and standards as we learn of them and by striving to move constantly forward in progress. As graduation time approaches and leaves, we shall often recall many glorious days spent at dear ol' Green Ridge High.
