Mu Alpha Theta The Green Oaks Chapter of Mu Alpha Theta, a national mathematics honor society, worked hard to stimulate an interest in mathematics. Under the leadership of Ms. Jackie Strong the members constructed projects and provided public recognition of superior mathematical scholarship. Members included Primette Braden, Tunya Roberson, Shelia Smith, Shawn Drew and Kim Jones. National Honor Society Mrs. Pam Bolton was selected this year to sponsor the Green Oaks Chapter of the NHS. A renewed interest in scholarship and keen competition was established among the members for awards in leadership, service and scholarship. Members were. The Student Council chose a number of spec¬ tacular activities for projects this school year. In addition to the usual Homecoming events they sponsored the Sweetheart Contest, Door Decora¬ tion Contest, Can food drive, Treat bags for Hallo¬ ween, Continental Breakfast for teachers and a assembly celebrating the Constitution. In November, they attended the Louisiana Associa¬ tion of Student Councils in Thibodeaux. Pictured left are President Braden and sponsor Mrs. A. Close Up Participantes in the Close Up program en¬ joyed a week in Washington, D.C. learning the democratic process of an insider. Through seminars talks with national leaders and ex¬ ploration of Washington rich political, cultural, and historical resources the students experienc¬ ed activities that can be remembered for a lifetime.
