2AAAA Champs 4 h -r The Green Oaks Giants had their first unbeaten regular season in school history this year, so you’d ex¬ pect the Giants to be rewarded on the All-District 2AAAA team. They Were. Green Oaks swept the individual honors as well as landing six berths on the team. Running back Kelvin Sherman, who set a school record for rushing in a season (958 yards) was named as the Outstanding Offensive Player. Sherman, who had never carried the ball in a varsity game until this season, averaged more that six yards per carry and his yardage total came in only nine games. Linebacker Roovelroe Swan, who had 140 tackles this year, was named as the Outstanding Defensive Player. Swan, a junior, was an honorable mention All-State selection last year and is a two-time All-City pick. He the Journal’s Outstanding Player on the All-City team. Also chosen from Green Oaks were quarterback Thatcher Kelly, wide receiver Renard Robinson, defensive lineman Vontego Jones and defen¬ sive back Ardie Smith. Coach of the Year is Gerald Kim¬ ble of Green Oaks. The Giants were 8-0-1 in the regular season before losing a first round play-off game to Neville. Giants 1987 District Renard Robinson pictured below, was selected to all District and All City Teams because of his outstanding play in District 2AAAA Competition. Renard stole the show in the 27-17 victory over Natchitoches-Central with six catches for 150 yards and three touchdowns. Making key one-handed catches was his trademark. Rovelroe Swan, above, was also selected to the all District and All Ci¬ ty Teams.
