Rcnard Robinson Thatcher Kelly Paul Whitfield Giant Basketball This year’s team could be best described as “a good situation that will definitely get better.” Coach Willie Stringer completed his thirteenth season at Green Oaks directing a young and talented group of gifted sophomores. Assisting Coach Stringer were Roderick Foppe and Aldon Kelly. Outstanding players for the year were Tony Williams, Thatcher Kelly, R. Swan, and Paul Whitfield. Graduating seniors were Corey Mitchell, Joe Holt, Patrick Lars, Paul Whitfield, Calvin Smith, Robert Myers and Malvin Murflf. The Giants got off to a slow start in the season, but bounced back in the second half of the season. District Competition was tough however, the Giants gave their best in each game. The varsity track team was competitive this year with a group of very talented sophomores. Kevin Porter, shot putter, did not set any records this year but with two years left he should become an outstanding performer. Emanuel Brooks was a stellar performer in the high hurdler as was Roovelroe Swan. Thatcher Kelly and Emanuel Brooks were the main stays in Javelin competition. There were a few pleasant surprises from Curtis Fulton, Abraham Ester, Kevin Whitfield, Louis Jones, Wayne Williams, and Earl Brown.
