1 Mrs. Alecia Allen, English III instructor, and Co-advisor of Student Council, assigns grades to her industrious students as she researches information in the library. It’s Planning Period Mrs. McMillan, business teacher, helps Tyrone Diggs catch up with assignments he missed while out of school for knee surgery. Mrs. Martha Glover, Mrs. Dinah Tinsley and Coach Harper compare notes during a planning period. Mr. Tom James, principal, has been an asset to the working staff of Giant Land for thirteen years. He has been more than produc¬ tive ensuring the staff the “Home of the Giants” is a comfortable “home away from home.” Giant Land is one of productivi¬ ty which is also one of Mr. James’ objectives. He stressed ad¬ ministrative and faculty coopera¬ tion as a team effort. So that “togetherness,” the Green Leaf Theme, is revealed. The Giants have progressed not only athletically, but academically as well under Mr. James’ ad¬ ministration. He attributes success to a staff who works together so that a task is successfully done. James asserts that his followers also function in leadership capacities. “Everybody must work jointly if a job is to be conquered.” When one sees the leader with his “stick” in his hand, it’s only symbolic of a burning torch sear¬ ching for a clearer and brighter way of facing a new tomorrow. Giants are proud of the principal for his many efforts in operating this beautiful school. Student, Charlotte Harris and Mr. James “Yes, Mr. James, I agree”, says Miss Hayes Mrs. Hill assures Mr. James that all look over program outline for the next as they turn the page of time. finances are in order assembly. Principal Tom James Assistant Principals Assistant principals Huey J. Hunt and John Baldwin worked together to correlate student and teacher activities. Mr. Baldwin worked closely with the faculty, scheduling classes, making classroom visits to observe instructional activities, selecting textbooks and supplies, planning faculty in service programs and even serving as a substitute teacher. Mr. Hunt worked directly with the students. He coordinated the activities for clubs and organiza¬ tions, enforced the school discipline code and supervised athletic events during the year. Together they worked to have a successful year. Meeting With Janice Office Personnel—Busy Workers The office personnel worked hard and diligently in helping to see that the school is run efficiently. Their many functions included registering students, taking attendance and calling parents, publishing two daily bulletins, checking students in and out and receiving messages. The library had subscrip¬ tions to a variety of magazines, newspapers or journals and back issues are maintained for easy access so that students can easily research topics in a variety of fields. The library also has an excellent selection of books and encyclopedias to future student research. The library was open early and re¬ mained open after school hours to allow students more flexibility in finding time to use it. The librarian, Mrs. Ruby Horton, assists Sydney Prymus in locating information for a science project. Mrs. Delois Bennent, Library Secretary The A-V librarian, Mr. Larry Bryan, was always available to assist teachers and students in selecting the software or equip¬ ment they need in preparing for class. Films, filmstrips, records, video tapes, maps and other aids are prepared and catalogued. The Green Oaks Counselors have always been a very real asset to the school. This year was no exception. They were available to assist students in selecting colleges, careers, schedules, or with some of the other problems high school students encounter. With the availability of a variety of catalog and other tools the counselors are well equipped to advise the students. Throughout the year they administered tests, held group sessions and met in¬ dividually with students.
