Distributive Education Club Of America The members of the Green Oaks DECA Club work in various businesses in the Shreveport area. Students attend classes part of the day and then receive on-the-job training by working in the afternoon or evening. Members thus get the opportunity to apply merchandising techniques learned in the classroom to actual job situations. Mr. James Conerly is the DECA advisor for Green Oaks. DECA Officers are (standing) Percy Davis, Vickie Smith, Sharon Draper, Eddie Williams, Phyllis Pamplin, Martha Mays, Kimberly Mims, (kneeling) Patrick Sanders, Gregory Ragster, John Alexander, and Richard Taylor. The 1984 DECA members are pictured below with their sponsor.

The Business Department at Green Oaks offers students a general knowledge of the business field. Under the skilled and capable staff, the students learn skills for everyday use as well as skills for employment. Students in cooperative education are in¬ troduced to the basics necessary for a career in the business office setting. As members of the Future Business Leaders of America, they are also given opportunities to develop leadership and social skills. Mrs. Charlotte Cadman, Mrs. Doris McMillan, and Mrs. Dinah Tinsley are the business education teachers. Gabriel Harvey demonstrates a new pro¬ gram on the computer to Steven Hardman and Annette Collins. Lisa Tyler shows Victoria Beard and Chantenell Jones a new technique she has mastered on the typewriter. Developing accuracy and proficiency in typing is one of the aims of the business department. Many of the students enrolled in the department are employed in the various businesses throughout the city. This employment allows the student to develop proper attitudes, saleable skills and learn the avenues that lead to permanent employment and lifetime careers. Left, Mrs. Cadman explains a point to Angela Hopkins and Phyllis Boykins. FBLA + COE = Careers
