The GIANTS prevailed as the crushing defense shut down the Captain Shreve Gators 20-0. Ricky Thomas 81 recovered a fumble that sparked the defense. Senior members of the team are shown below: Kneeling—Davell Jackson, Delaware Kelly, Troy Sumlin, Lesley Fountain, Jimmy Phillips, Frederick Bradford, Andre Nelson, Craig Johnson, Ricky Thomas. Standing—Carlos Thomas, Jessie Stinson, Anthony Ashley, Marvin Jefferson, Daniel Jones, Roland Fowler, Chris Morris, John Alexander, and Mark Norwood. Giants Post A 9-1 Season And Are District Champions The 1984 GIANTS surprised everybody. The team picked to finish last in district won the whole thing with a 5-0 district mark and 9-1 overall season—by far the best in the city. There were many surprises this season, but the biggest had to be Ben Brown, the young man with no varsity experience, who played with the poise of a seasoned veteran. There were many outstanding individuals: All Staters Chris Morris and Daniel Jones, All District Ben Brown, Alvin Griffin, Delaware Kelly, Jessie Stinson, Mark Norwood, and John Alexander.
