The 1984 GREENLEAF Green Oaks High School Home Of The Giants Shreveport, Louisiana Student Life Karen Kirksev, President of Students Against Drugs, accepts the challenge from K. Thompson, guest speaker. Albert Samuels makes remarks to classmates in accepting challenge to stamp out drug use in high school. Mr. Vardeman explains the procedure to Mrs. May and Terry Savan¬ nah. Some seniors stop to pose under the oaks. 4 Jill Johnson shows off her very neat and well organized locker to her friends while Michael McCarter tries to convince Darla Jackson that she should let him treat her to lunch. Gary Fields and Gwen Cutwright enjoy a break between classes. Stacy Ammons receives a little help from her friend, Leslie. Ronda Smith Crowned Miss Green Oaks On a beautiful evening in November 1983, Ronda Smith was crowned Miss Green Oaks 1983-84. This lovely lady reigned over activities during Homecom¬ ing. We call her our queen because of the very regal qualities she possesses. Short in stature but tall in love for all adequately describes Ronda. She is the essence of kindness, grace, and beauty. Ronda’s smile radiates the beauty she is. Right: Ronda and Michael in the Royal Toast. Tyrone Leake serves the Royal Couple while Calvin Stroughter stands guard. 8 Honda, Miss Green Oaks, is a senior. Through her four years as a member of the Giant family, she has been active in many clubs and organizations. She is a member of the National Honor Society, Elites, and the Society of Ebonites. Ronda is also a member of SAD Club. She is pictured receiving a congratulatory kiss from the principal Mr. Tom James as Mrs. B. Bennett assists with the cape. Honda’s parents are Mr. and Mrs. Roland Smith. 9 Each year the student body of Green Oaks elects a young man who best exemplifies the ideal male student. The 1983-1984 choice was Michael Washington. Michael has been and is still very active in many organizations on campus. He holds membership in the Society of Ebonites, Egalitarians, and National Honor Society. Michael holds a starting position on the varsity basketball team. Last summer he was a representative to Boy’s State and Louisiana College at Pineville for the Civitan’s Convention. He received the DAR award for academic excellence, citizenship and school spirit. His charm, his pleasing and polite manner, broad smile and caring spirit make him a favorite with classmates and faculty. Michael strikes a pose near the flagpole in the square. Michael Washington, Mr. Green Oaks poses with Ronda Smith, Miss Green Oaks. Getting The Homecoming Spirit WMEC0MING33 Ricky Smith yells encouragements to his team mates as Green Oaks beats Bossier High 38-7. Rod Phillips entertains a group in his HOBO outfit. Daphne Fountain looks on as a spirit banner is raised. Southern University (Baton Rouge) Drill Team came to help in the celebration. 18 SENIOR CLASS OFFICERS: JUANMARVEL TRAMEL, President; CONNIE SPEED, Vice President; ANGELA THOMAS, Secretary; SILAS PAYNE,Parliamentarian; EMANUEL GRIFFIN, Chaplain; LINDA JACKSON, Treasurer.
