Soph- omores and freshmen were not allowed to park in the lot after semester in hopes that the problem would be releived. This year was different from most be- cause we had two different student body presidents, Teri Martinez took over for Jung So when Jung graduated at semester. Senior, Jon Hume, became a national winner when he competed in various runs over the country. Lakes Ismailides also won an award in a Na- tional Science contest. There was a new non-school sponsored boys volleyball team this year made up of Green Mountain students. This new team had a very successful season. A new school policy this year was that parents were called if a student absence was not ex- cused within the day. This new policy was adopted to relieve the attendance problem. A sad development in Jeffer- son County was what some called a sui- cide epidemic. The epidemic caused the schools and social services to mobilize and try and help. The year 1985-1986 was a year in which much progress was made. It was also a year with many tragedies and setbacks. Good and bad it, it was the year that was. Current - 213

St. Louis Cardinals. Seventeen year old Boris Becker became the youn- gest man ever to win the title of Wimb- ledon Champion. Another special event in baseball this year was the breaking of TY Cobb's hit record by Pete Rose. On a more local level, Daddy Bruce, the Denver restaurant owner, who feeds the homeless on special holidays, was honored this year with a street named after him, Daddy Bruce Ave. People were in an uproar all over the Denver area because of the public smoking is- sue. The year 1985-86 was the year of Don Johnson, Philip Michael Thomas, and the Miami Vice Look. The hottest thing at the box office was Michael J. Fox in Back to the Futurew grossing well over 100 million dollars. Other popular flicks were St. Elmo's Fire, Out of Africa, Pee- Wee's Big Adventure, Rambo, First Blood Part II, Rocky IV, Down and Out in Beverly Hills, and White Nights. On the music scene, no one could top 6'The Boss , Bruce Springsteen during the fall, but by early Spring, John Cou- gar Mellencamp had taken over as Americals country-boy hero. Madon- na ushered in the fashion craze of the year with her risque clothing and outra- geous on-stage antics. Sting and Phil Collins who were members of suc- cessful bands came out with popular solo albums this year. On July 13, 1985, more than a billion people world-wide tuned into the Live- Aid concerts at Wembley Stadium in London and John F. Kennedy Stadium in Philadelphia. The concerts were or- ganized by Bob Geldof, and they raised money for the Ethiopian famine vic- tims. Geldof was rewarded for his work with a Nobel Peace Prize nomination. United Artists against Apartheid re- corded the song Sun City to protest apartheid in South Africa. 212 - Current ,, 5.?gire,2:924 ,, ' Q ' E'q,r..' Ramblings This year's yearbook staff consisted of a variety of personalities. Several people with talents in different areas contributed to the success of this year's yearbook. Each year, the feature on the year- book page is focused on the problems and duties that are encountered. It is, however, the people attacking the prob- lems and duties that actually produce the yearbook. This year's yearbook staff consisted of four seniors, six juniors, six sopho- mores, and six freshmen. Jonna Behm senior, was this yearis editor and proved to be a major asset to the staff. She was Nancy Rassmussen takes a break to show us a smile. She was responsible for assigning stories, photos, etc., and seeing that each person finished their assignments. The editor, as well as the rest of the staff, proved to be enthusiastic about the success of this year's yearbook. De- spite the hassles and times of frustra- tion, the staff was able to overcome problems and put together a yearbook we believe will be both interesting and unique to any previously issued year- book.
