Alphabet Soup SAT, ACT, NMSQT, KUDER, JOBO, ASVAB, GATB. Confused? You're not alone. The number of standard- ized tests you will take in four years of high school is enough to confuse anyone. From your sim- ple, annoying, CTBS test that you take every two years, to that ever important SAT, that makes you break out in hives, they are obsta- cles you could do without. As if there weren't already enough standardized tests. The Colorado Department of Educa- tional testing is adding two more tests this year. In ninth grade you have CTBS, which is a basic skills test that shows how you compare to others of your grade level. COSIS, which is designed to help you choose what careers you might go into. The writing sample test and a Ba- sic Skills test. In tenth grade, you have the .IOBO which is an interest inven- tory, and possibly your PSAT. In eleventh grade there is the PSATXNMSQT which is the Na- tional Merit Scholarship Qualify- ing Test, and at the end of your Junior year, maybe your SAT. In twelfth grade there is your SAT and, of course, another writ- ing sample. QYou knew you couldn't get rid of them that easi- ly.J Not to mention all of the op- tional testing such as the ASVAB, which is for people interested in the military, and the GATB.
