F.H.A. Just what exactly is FHA and what does it stand for? That's what most people say when they hear about FHA. Well, FHA stands for Future Homemakers of America, but it isn't a club for girls who sit around and sew. The club teaches the members, both male and female, such things as leadership and goal setting. Every person involved in a home economics class is in FHA, but they are not required to come to the meet- ings, pay their dues, or even actually be involved in club activities. The main emphasis of Green Students listen to design artist on vocational arts day. Ted Topkoff hard at work in child development. Eggs owned by tleft to rightj Rick Kaylor, Ted Topkoff, and Troy Michaels. J The main emphasis of Green Moun- tain's FHA program is the District and State conventions. The members who are interested in trying for leadership positions must be put through extensive interviews and debates. The process of attaining such high positions is so rigor- ous that most members do not pursue the positions. The members who do go through the process often do not com- plete it in time to become an officer before their senior year is over. With all the competition involved with FHA, there has to be some more relaxed and social activities. For in- stance, this year they had a banana split game. They had to answer questions re- lating to Home Economics before they could add ingredients to their banana split creations. FHA sponsored an FHAfHERO day in the auditorium on November 13. Topics covered included drinking and driving, relationships, communicating with parents, and physical fitness relat- ing to health. In the winter, they spon- sored a career day with representatives from colleges, Warren Technical Center, and even Columbine Beauty School.
