F.H.A. Just what exactly is FHA and what does it stand for? That's what most people say when they hear about FHA. Well, FHA stands for Future Homemakers of America, but it isn't a club for girls who sit around and sew. The club teaches the members, both male and female, such things as leadership and goal setting. Every person involved in a home economics class is in FHA, but they are not required to come to the meet- ings, pay their dues, or even actually be involved in club activities. The main emphasis of Green Students listen to design artist on vocational arts day. Ted Topkoff hard at work in child development. The members who are interested in trying for leadership positions must be put through extensive interviews and debates. The process of attaining such high positions is so rigor- ous that most members do not pursue the positions. The members who do go through the process often do not com- plete it in time to become an officer before their senior year is over. With all the competition involved with FHA, there has to be some more relaxed and social activities. For in- stance, this year they had a banana split game. They had to answer questions re- lating to Home Economics before they could add ingredients to their banana split creations. FHA sponsored an FHAfHERO day in the auditorium on November 13. Topics covered included drinking and driving, relationships, communicating with parents, and physical fitness relat- ing to health. In the winter, they spon- sored a career day with representatives from colleges, Warren Technical Center, and even Columbine Beauty School. Now, after reading this, you'd bet- ter not picture girls sitting around with their embroidery when you hear about FHA. at ff' F -:ii I . . -515.5 1 ff? -is K . 's.. FBLA FBLA knows their business. These are our Future Business Leaders of America. The students who partici- pate in this organization are those who are interested in persuing in office and office related occupations. These dedicated individuals learn various of- fice skills such as dictation, office management, file management, word processing date base management, bookkeeping skills, and telephone eti- quette. These skills, although specifi- cally intended for those interested in business careers, are useful for almost anyone. As with any club or organization, the members are also motivated by the social aspects. The students look for- ward to the meetings themselves, working together on fund raisers, and especially the annual trip to the Broadmoor for the state convention. At the state convention they com- pete for awards in areas such as typ- ing, dictation, speech, and several oth- ers. The members work towards the convention all year in hopes of achiev- ing distinction, but this is not their only purpose. The awards received are not as important as setting high goals, trying to achieve them and the exper- iences they get through being a mem- ber of FBLA. The members of FBLA were: Tamara Anderson, Dana Al- w - -.1 O Q .yawn-'f,j S....?..... f , gi, K . varez, Theresa Case, Susan Clements, Linda Connor, Denice Davis, Sharon Dobbs, Tammy Egan, Suzanne Fenger, Dana Guinn, Brian Heman Bonnie Holford, Juanita Jones, Mi- chelle Kelley, Shelley Kerston, Leslie Kontio, Christina Lewis, Michelle Lo- pez, Stacey McCanless, Joahna Mc- Kinley, Kimberly Means, Donna Meier, Carla Mensik, Jenifer Mona- han, Donna Oliver, Kelley Pagliasotti Kelly Pietro, Tress Remington, Tami Roderick, Julie Rosulek, Lucia To- man, Cheryl Townsend, Audra Turbi- ville, Al Visconti, Kristine Wales Adam Way, Lori Winston, Anne Zamboni.
