Toward A Sales Career - ,- As we get older, most of us are starting to think about what it's like out in the real world. And while the rest of us are just won- dering the people in DECA are doing it. DECA stands for Distri- butive Education Club of Amer- ica which basically teaches it's members all of the aspects of re- tailing and the retail business from advertising to finance and credit. In the very near future or even in the present, the skills they are learning will be beneficial to helping them succeed. This year, the DECA has been especially busy with activites. One of the highlights was the officer election breakfast at Simms Landing. The breakfast was thoroughly enjoy- able, both the food and the com- pany. The candidates made speeches and the 85-86 officers were elected. DECA is not only a fun organization, but a competi- tive one. GMHS had six people qualify for the state leadership conference at the Broadmoor in Colorado Springs. They were: Jim England - Advertising services, Debbie Irwin - apparel and acces- sories, Tracey Bogema - finance and credit, Todd Crecs - food dis- tribution, Shelly Rodgers - food distribution, and Mary Burns - restaurant marketing. The offi- cers are: President Debbie Irwin, Vice President Brenda Kaiser, Secretary Tami Deitrick, Trea- surer Denise McMahon, Publicity directors Shay Arnst, and Debbie Major, Regional V.P. Tony Ro- dosta. . DECA - 121

Outdoor Lab We all look back on Outdoor Lab as a once in lifetime exper- ience. But for a few, Outdoor Lab comes twice in a lifetime. Instead of going up as counselors. It's go- ing to be an entirely different ball game this time around. Each stu- dent will be in charge of ten inex- haustible, continuously mischie- vious, sixth graders and anyone who has babysat knows how hard it is to handle. just one or two. Despite the possible difficulties of the task, the Outdoor Lab pro- gram fails to get more applica- tions than it could ever need. Con- sequently, the competition for arf RHN lvlfllfwi-XifXl Xwf spots is stiff. The applicants are judged by their teachers and an applicant that must have at least a 2.5 GPA and a good attendance record. Those who are accepted will receive a quarter credit and have a lot of fun. The purpose of the having high school students participate in Outdoor Lab is to: UD Provide additional instruction l and supervision for the sixth grad- T ers, and 121, to provide valuable learning for the high school stu- dent. It's going to prove to be an exciting experience. After all, we're all still young at heart. The Hutchinson group. FBLA FBLA knows their business. These are our Future Business Leaders of America. The students who partici- pate in this organization are those who are interested in persuing in office and office related occupations. These dedicated individuals learn various of- fice skills such as dictation, office management, file management, word processing date base management, bookkeeping skills, and telephone eti- quette. These skills, although specifi- cally intended for those interested in business careers, are useful for almost anyone. As with any club or organization, the members are also motivated by the social aspects. The students look for- ward to the meetings themselves, working together on fund raisers, and especially the annual trip to the Broadmoor for the state convention. At the state convention they com- pete for awards in areas such as typ- ing, dictation, speech, and several oth- ers. The members work towards the convention all year in hopes of achiev- ing distinction, but this is not their only purpose. The awards received are not as important as setting high goals, trying to achieve them and the exper- iences they get through being a mem- ber of FBLA. The members of FBLA were: Tamara Anderson, Dana Al- w - -.1 O Q .yawn-'f,j S....?..... f , gi, K . varez, Theresa Case, Susan Clements, Linda Connor, Denice Davis, Sharon Dobbs, Tammy Egan, Suzanne Fenger, Dana Guinn, Brian Heman Bonnie Holford, Juanita Jones, Mi- chelle Kelley, Shelley Kerston, Leslie Kontio, Christina Lewis, Michelle Lo- pez, Stacey McCanless, Joahna Mc- Kinley, Kimberly Means, Donna Meier, Carla Mensik, Jenifer Mona- han, Donna Oliver, Kelley Pagliasotti Kelly Pietro, Tress Remington, Tami Roderick, Julie Rosulek, Lucia To- man, Cheryl Townsend, Audra Turbi- ville, Al Visconti, Kristine Wales Adam Way, Lori Winston, Anne Zamboni. She is a student who has never really gotten credit for many of the things she has done and so we recognize her now. FBLA members. student. Michelle Lopez, dedicated FBLA 122 - FBLA
