International Club All Club members talk at a ,r meeting. Ever dream of travelling to far away lands or seeing famous sights? The members of Interna- tional Club have. International Club was created in order to allow members to become involved with the cultures and languages of oth- er countries. Their ultimate goal is to take a trip to Mexico some- time next summer. Meanwhile they occupy their time by selling gumi bears to raise money and eating at international restau- rants. This year, they've gone to the Magic Pan and to the Old Country. The club is almost en- tirely made up of sophomores and three out of the four officers held offices last year. They are Presi- dent Anne Clarke, former secre- tary, Vice President Polly Boeg- lie, former treasurer, Laurie Bier former vice President, now trea- surer, and newly elected secretary Renae Hood. Because they will not be able to afford a trip this year, President Anne Clarke is planning a ski trip to Keystone over Waishington's Birthday weekend. Their goals for the club are to become culturally educated and have a lot of fun at the same time! it I Anne is International Club s sec ond president Like most of the Interna Club members, she is a sophomore. was the secretary for the club last year. Science Club 1986 has been an exciting year for science club. With the return of Hal- ley's Comet, the club was able to organize some fascinating lectures and activities. First, they took a fieldtrip to the Colorado School of Mines to attend a special lecture on Halley's Comet presented by Cyril P. Mr. P is one of the world's leading Halley's Comet. This presentation was given at Green Mountain, and was attended by over one hundred students. Working together to organize the various science club activities are the sponsors: Mrs. Garwood, Mr. Reid and the club board members. This year's board members are Lakes Is- authorities on an outstanding lec- ture. Another club activity associat- ed with the comet was a lecture given by Kim Mahlbach. Mr. Malhback presented a slide show and answered any questions the students had about Science club members listen to a lecture. Science club members gather for a group picture. Latin Club A unique and active club at Green Mountain is the Latin Club. Stu- dents who are currently taking Latin, or have taken Latin previously, can join the club. The club officers have the same structure as the Greek gov- ernment. There are two Presidents, or Consulas. They are senior Wendy Schlenzig and junior Lisa Kay. Mike Losasso and Debra Davis are the two Vice-Presidents or Vice- Consulas. This year's secretary is Michelle Bol- laig and the treasurer is Jeffery Obe- china. There are also two censors, Chris Calandra and James Boyd, and two poster makers who are Sean Steyer and Andy Runyan. Latin Club meets every other week, and each month they have speakers on a different topic that pertains to the club. Besides the meetings, they also have a variety of activities. During the homecoming barbeque this year, they sold Pando- ra's Boxes. They also went to a Lisa Kay Greek restaurant with the Latin Clubs from Wheatridge, Arvada, and Arvada West. They got to see a Greek show, and they even partici- pated in the Greek dancing. They made and sold yarn, Christmas canes, and gave Christmas cards to all the teachers. On Valentine's Day, the club decorated the school with signs and posters wishing the stu- dents and staff a Happy Valentine's Day. In the spring, the club celebrated the birthday of Rome from April 21st to April 30th. The members dis- played projects representing Greco- Roman culture. The club also had outdoor picnics and Roman ban- quets where they feasted on deli- cious and exotic Greek foods. The Latin Club is a really active group at GMHS and if there is something ex- citing going on at school don't be surprised if Latin Club has some- thing to do with it.
