The Strings Have It The Green Mountain Symphonic Orchestra increased in number this year. They now have eighteeen mem- bers, and are looking forward to an even larger membership next year. The orchestra is made up of nu- merous different types of string in- struments, including violins, violas, and cellos. The group plays a wide variety of classical music, composed by several different classical musicians. The group also spends a great deal of time improving their technique and Sue O'Connor prepares to practice a piece. sight reading skills. The musicians are involved in Symphonic Orchestra because they enjoy being in music. The group meets every day, plus each member is required to practice on their own time. Each member is responsible for learning their own parts, so that the entire group will sound perfect dur- ing their performances. Symphonic Orchestra takes a lot of time and effort, and the members are extremely dedicated as is their director, Mr. Rex Nelson. K GM Pep Band This year's pep band, headed by Julie March, played at the winter events. fThis was done because marching band played at the fall events.J Pep band played at pep rallies, but mainly played at the girls' and boys' basketball games. The band was split into two units. Half of the band played at the girls' games and the other half played at the boys'. This was so the band members could rotate between games. The mem- bers of pep band were all volunteers, but they all received points toward let- ters. Pep band wasn't an organized club, but they were an organized group of people. They proved this by everyone attending the games they were responsi- ble for. At first glance, pep band looks like a condensed version of marching band. For the most part, they're right. Several of the pep band members were also members of marching band. The music played by pep band was a combination of music from marching band and out- side selections. All in all, pep band proved to be a great asset to the enthu- siasm experienced at the winter events. at r- . Julie March leads the pep band at a basketball game. A fl.
