BOYS BASKETBALL VARSITY The 4979-4980 VarsiTy Bas- keTball Team was The besT Green MounTain has ever had, The Team consisTed of eighT senior players ranging in heighT from 6' To 6'9 and four junior x'STaTe BaiTs . The combinaTion of scores from The pre-season, and Sub-DisTricT TournamenT games gave The Rams an ouT- sTanding 49-2 record, wiTh losses from WheaTridge and Alameda. Tim Lovejoy and Mark Langkamp led The Team in rebounds and Langkamp in scoring, averaging over 20 poinTs per game. AlThough all of The Teams did well, The varsi- Ty produced ouTsTanding re- sulTs. They have been called The Too Tall Team by Their shorTer opponenTs. The Pep Band, The cheerleaders, Ram Rowdies, and of course The coaches and The players made This baskeTball season noT only The mosT exciTing, buT definiTely The besT. ry of 61-AQ. The Rams advanced to the quarter-finals and were met by the guys from Regis High School. The Raid- ers almost had our hopes for first de- stroyed, but again, Green Mountain came out The victors, 50-417. Things started to get real tough go- ing into the semi-finals, and The team to beat was the Maroons from Ala- mosa. The Rams got hassled during The first half, and were having problems handling the situation, but after half- time and a pep-talk from Coach Davis, the mighty Rams walked on the court and stomped out the Alamosa team. 65-At. Ah . . . Finally! The State AA Cham- pionship game. and against whom else beating with a score of 74-55 and the Rams walked away with the state title. and a couple more basketball nets! After this the chant changed and ev- eryone on our side screamed, Boulder . , . Panthers , . , Boulder Panthers just got stomped! The stars that made up the if! team were Paul Witherspoon. Glen Merica, Bill Rooney, Chuck Felton, Tim Lovejoy, Sean Vasey, Mark Langkamp, and Tim Deignan. Sean Vasey was recognized ln the Denver Post as a member of the second team, All-Conference, and on the All-Tournament team. Tim Love- joy's name appeared in the Boulder Camera, and he made first team, All- Conference, and the All-Tournament team also. Tim Deignan mentioned in the Rocky Mountain News because he was on second team, All-Conference along with Vasey. Chuck Felton re- ceived honorable mention for the All- Conference team. Mark Langkamp cleaned up everything when he was picked for All-Tournament by the Den- ver Post, the Rocky Mtn. News, and the Boulder Camera, and was picked All- Tournament most valuable player. He was chosen for first team AIl-Conter- ence, and the biggest honor was be- ing selected to participate on the McDonald's All-American team in games against Teams from other states the weekend of March 28-30. in Salt Lake City, Utah. CONGRATULATIONS!!! RAMS!!! but the defending state champs from Boulder. Colorado, the Boulder High - fx ,gy QI' U,-K. School Panthers. The game was so ex- citing it was indescribable! Everyone was yelling Boulder Panthers 5,17 vi Boulder Panthers gonna get stomped! Our team was losing the first halt, and a fewfly Green Mountain fans were pretty worried. but things shaped up at the end of third quarter when Boulder had two technical fouls called on them, The Rams got a break, and the rest is history!
