SCIENCE Science is a very important subject to many people, mainly those that wish to learn about their surroundings, life ln itself, and how many complicated Things work. Green Mountain has an excellent Science De- partment, and much can be learned in any of the various classes offered. Each subject is taught in different levels of comprehension in Physics, Biol- ogy, Chemistry, Unified Science, Physical Science, and Earth Sci- ence. AII are valuable in their contents, if science is a subject that you like. Even if you don't like science, several classes, such as Earth Science or Biology, are two very interesting classes and are not as difficult as Chern- istry or Physics. The Science De- partment is a thoroughly edu- cated group of people, and in any class taken, the subject will be well taught to you. -.... 1 'fs . -x l i 'e 4, xxx I 'X A f .il 'r , E54 1 xx tj. Q x? Through Business classes, stu- dents can develop good typ- ing, shorthand, and accounting techniques, which will aid them in the future as employees. The skills of typing can also be an immense help in doing home- work and reports quickly and neatly. Through the years, D.E.C.A. and F.B.L.A., two business clubs, have become very important organizations to Green Mtn. High, Thanks to the Business De- partment, we can purchase food, drinks, and school supplies from the school store, which is run by D.E.C.A. members. The 4080 Green Mountain High School Boy's Varsity Bas- ketball Team stomped out every op- ponent's team on their way to the State AAA Championship. The guys fin- ished their best season ever with a 23- 2 record to win first place in the state of Colorado. During pre-season, the Rams were rated first, but the ranking was soon destroyed when Wheat Ridge came to our school ancl beat us by four points. The loss didn't destroy the team's hopes for the rest of the sea- son, so they went out and walked on Pomona, Jefferson, Evergreen, Gold- en. and Bear Creek. The streak lasted up until we played Alameda at home. The Pirates couldn't, and didn't miss that night, and they downed the Rams by twenty-one points. The next four games against Columbine fa make-up game because of snowy, Lakewood. Arvada, and Arvada West assured us a place in the Sub-District Tournament. The Rams had to beat three teams to win the Jefferson County Cham- pionship. and they did. Their first game was against Evergreen, and you'd have thought that the Cougars had stayed home that night, like they prob- ably wished they had done, after our team won by forty-six points. A little bit tougher team to beat was the sure- shooting Alameda guys, but the Rams pulled it off by beating them by four points in over-time. The next game was for the Jefferson County League Championship and we went to Wheat Ridges gym and teamed up against the Farmers, who had never been beaten by a Green Mountain team. Both teams played very intensely and the game ended in a tie, and over-time resulted. The television news cameras had been covering segments of the game and catching crowd shots, but none of the film was as excit- ing or important as the part of our Ram team coming out on top to win the Jefferson County Championship and, after the game, taking down Wheat Ridge's nets. This win gave Green Mountain top seeding going into the state tournament. The first opponent was from Pueblo Central High School, and the Wildcat team proved to be worthy of a state seed: although the Wildcats hopes for first were wiped out after a Ram victo- ry of 61-AQ. The Rams advanced to the quarter-finals and were met by the guys from Regis High School. The Raid- ers almost had our hopes for first de- stroyed, but again, Green Mountain came out The victors, 50-417. Things started to get real tough go- ing into the semi-finals, and The team to beat was the Maroons from Ala- mosa. The Rams got hassled during The first half, and were having problems handling the situation, but after half- time and a pep-talk from Coach Davis, the mighty Rams walked on the court and stomped out the Alamosa team. 65-At. Ah . . . Finally! The State AA Cham- pionship game. and against whom else beating with a score of 74-55 and the Rams walked away with the state title. and a couple more basketball nets! Glen Merica, Bill Rooney, Chuck Felton, Tim Lovejoy, Sean Vasey, Mark Langkamp, and Tim Deignan. Sean Vasey was recognized ln the Denver Post as a member of the second team, All-Conference, and on the All-Tournament team. Tim Love- joy's name appeared in the Boulder Camera, and he made first team, All- Conference, and the All-Tournament team also. Tim Deignan mentioned in the Rocky Mountain News because he was on second team, All-Conference along with Vasey. Chuck Felton re- ceived honorable mention for the All- Conference team. Mark Langkamp cleaned up everything when he was picked for All-Tournament by the Den- ver Post, the Rocky Mtn. News, and the Boulder Camera, and was picked All- Tournament most valuable player. He was chosen for first team AIl-Conter- ence, and the biggest honor was be- ing selected to participate on the McDonald's All-American team in games against Teams from other states the weekend of March 28-30. in Salt Lake City, Utah. The Pur- pose of Senate is to serve the Student Body, and if one student became more involved and inter- ested, Senate achieved an important goal. Through activities such as Homecoming, Canned Food Drives, Health Awareness Week, and Prom, we can be sure of student involvement. Howev- er, the seemingly less important activities of Sen- ate were the most significant. New Student parties and giving out warm fuzzies were just a few ways that we tried to congratulate people for just being alive. inwardly, I realize the 79-80 Senate has been a huge success, because ev- eryone really cared. To care about something, to have a cause , makes a person complete. This school year has been one of ups and downs, successes and failures, but it is something to be proud of. l'd like to wish every person at Green Mountain High School the best of luck. You can make your life everything you want it to be. Debbie Nalty Student Body President ', P After eleven years of lectures, and home- work, my senior year has finally arrived. All of the anticipation I felt had finally paid off. I owe a lot of my success in my final year at Green Mountain to this year's Student Senate. Not only did the 48 senators join the student body in all possible ways, but together they became better leaders, as well as individuals. Student Senate is by far one of my most rewarding experiences. I highly recommend every stu- dent in the coming years to get involved with the organization. I wish you all succss in the coming years. Hope to see you again soon. Sharon VanDyke Student Body Secretary iiHigh school could not have possibly meant as much without Senate. It is one of the many fantastic learning experiences available at Green Mountain High School. In the four years I have been fortunate enough to serve the Student Body through Senate I have experienced many different aspects relating to real life. One is that of change-things constantly changing for the better and for the worse. Another invalu- able lesson I have learned through Senate is to get involved and to MAKE A DIFFERENCE in the lives of other people. I thank you for this opportunity and may God bless you alll Jim Thermos Student Body Vice-President 'Qi lt's not a class of taking notes or writing a research paper, or even taking a single test . . . no, not Senate. Senate is a class of 50 teachers and 50 stu- dents. Every individual must contribute a piece of his own self in order to learn in the class. What a student learns is not numbers or theor- ies or facts, but responsibility, patience, and above all, confidence in standing up for one's self even if AQ other people should be against him. Senate is a unique class where every student is a piece of paper to be written on and a pencil which writes upon others. Anna lvlarie Mantel Student Body Treasurer . P . 1 F 0 2 1 The 'M .
