PEAKS Old Grads of Green Mountain College Frolic After Nuptials Party Given by the Newly United Howard Barnes on Board the DeEtta ll Vermonters and Celebrities Mingle at Gala Social Event of Season in Harbor NEW YORK. N. Y.. july 15, 1948. QUPJQ- The following is a summary of a farewell party given in honor of the newlyweds, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Barnes. on board Mr. Richard Eich- horn's yacht, Dflfttn Tlrf Srmmf, last Friday night. july 15, 1948. Among the first to arrive were the Wilsons. Mrs. Wilson being the former Miss Ruth Mur- ray of Comstock. Freddy was in an eight- cylinder dilemma, as one of the women of his past was pursuing him. accompanied by her lawyer. Mr. Melville Wolinsky. The gal, it is whispered. is Caroline Chapin. 'iCaptain Bill Sunderland. Racine Clough, and Red Pelling, three Hampton raeketeers. came rolling aboard looking for Frank Ross. who had come on early to make some minor re- pairs on the plumbing system of the ship. Jimmie Eaton and his band of jolly White- hallions were supplying very danceable tunes from the salon of the spacious shipg later it was rumored that Betty Carman. winner of the re- cent Bob Kingman dance contest, would give the interpretation which had won first prize. Betty was presented on board by her press agent. that former news hound. Scoop Roche. Vie understand that Miss Carman won by a close margin over the strong competition of Flittin' Bess Schiefer. notorious exponent of the Terpsichorean art. Miss Schiefer in a state- ment to the press said: Tlris decision merely proves the deterioration of society in the ap- preciation of the classic art-my art. A little roly-poly Scotchman. Macfkrtlrur by name. rumored to be the brains behind the or- ganization of the Boston Association for the protection of Kiddies' Playgrounds. accompanied by two of his henchmen. jerry 'Fucker fauthor of Sex and the New Lifeuj and T. Neil Morris one of Poultney's muscle men. came up the gangplank looking for .lerry's rotund spouse. Shirley. He found her sitting with the bachelor. Clark Bachman. who was telling her about that new and overnightly famous artist. l. xl. Nichols. who had skyrocketed to fame with his portrait of the Vice-Presidents daughter. Marjorie Aiken. at work in dadtly's otiice. lille latter. by the by. is said to have just lately Cleverly wed the former Boston athlete and tavern owner who is now holding a political iob. The dinner was being prepared below by those deans of cooks. Bruce and Burnell. Over in the l corner of the galley. Head Steward. Dick Hol- man the divorced husband of Betty Carman, was sleeping soundly. A couple of children. said to belong to Scribbling Wiggins of the New York Times and his wife. Esther Roberts, ran past the galley door pursued by their nurse and governess. janet Cramton. As they rounded the corner, they almost knocked down Billie Campbell, Well-known di- vorcee and leading lady in Cl1uck Collin's Fol- lies of 1947. A tall, sleepy-looking' man strolling the deck proved to be Honest -lohn Northrop. Miss Camp- pell's manager. A big disturbance at the gang- plank heralded the entrance of Gortly 'lStrang- leri' Hughes. the ':Woild's Vllrastling Champ. l'le was accompanied by his managers. George Dutton and Dong Everest ex-stable mates. Following close on the champ's heels came lack Bouck with none other than Dot Stiles. fresh from a round of Alberg Deb parties. Miss Stiles. it is said. will marry the playboy any day note. As the ship left the harbor. they passed a couple of hitchhikcrs who were bumming their way to Bermuda in a leaky rowboat. They were Helen Yelton, a broken-down opera star, and Ruth Jackson. a disappointed secretary. Hanging to their stern rope was a bedragszled Paul Sunderland. Hew- doctor of veterinary. ever. Skipper Irvine T. Holmes disdained to pick them up. Mumbling incoherently about the Hugh lmpey. who has 'Agood neighbor policy. been striving for years to get somewhere with peace conferences. was found in a lifeboat and was taken away to Herbie Hodgeman's Black Gang. For diversion. some of the party tur'ned to a television set. which. as you know. had been de- veloped by Harold Haseltine in the year 1941. Professor Haseltine is now trying to understand his own theory of the cosmic rays. and is in one of Professor Swann's quite homelike sanitariums. The set was turned to a coast to coast hook up of those two ardent feminists. Doctors Lillian Gregory and Marian 'Peters of Chicano U. These two. as you know. saw the light of their present philosophies way back in 1936. through the medium of a chapel address by that cru- sader and worker for equal women's ri,Q:hts.
