Hughes Front row: Wolinsky, jones, Sweeney Bcasebcll After being defeated by the Vermont Frosh, in the second game of the season, the G. M. C. baseball club came back to win nine straight and conclude the 1935 campaign with a record of ten wins and one loss. Building around two veterans, outfielder Ordway and first baseman Cleverly, later shifted to short, Jack Heffernan developed a hustling ball club made up of VVilson, DeBonis, lhfahar and Cleverly, iniieldersg Wfolinsky, Grdway and Pafundi, outnelders, lVIacArthur, Q. Hughes and G. Hughes, catchers. The pitching corps consisted of Eaton, Qrdway, VVilson, Stevens, Wlaclswortli and Sweeney, with the first two named being the regular starters who bore the brunt of work throughout the season. The best performances turned in during the year were against the Vermont Frosh and Albany Business College. After losing to the Frosh by a I2 to 5 count at Burlington, early in the season, the Green and Gold downed the Cats S to 4 in a return contest in which jimmy Eaton limited them to four hits and fanned nine. On Nfay 29, pitcher Ordway turned in a superb exhibition, defeating Albany Business College 3 to 2, limiting them to but two hits in ten innings. The lXfIoun- taineers led 1 to O until the eighth inning when pitcher Nlarsh of the Business College hit a home run with one on to give his team a 2 to 1 lead. G. IVI. C. tied the score ia their half of the inning and won out in the tenth when Jones reached first on catcher's interference, was sacrificed to second and scored on Eaton's line single to right.
