.,, ...,,.,... or -1- ,V -- Y- 1- -+ 1-- -- 6556 HOP BC Apex, North Caroline May 51, 1961 Dear Mrs. Yates, A lot has happened since my Freshman year in Green Hope High School, but I haven't forgotten English classes under you. I was reminiscing the other day, and remembered that you asked us to let you know what we were doing ten years after we graduated from the old school. It really is a small world for I have seen all of those who were with me in the class of 1951. I thought perhaps, if you are still interested, I could tell you about them. There are some who have become famous and whom you have, no doubt, recognized in the newspapers and magazines. Jimmy Byrd has been elected as a member of Congress. The Wake County Chapter of the American Red Cross will offer a course in home nursing the first of June, 1961. Peggy Riggsbee will outline the plans for the course. Wallace Ellis has been named president of the Home Security Life Insurance Company. Grover Lewter is sound-effects man for station W.H.H.B. The latest addition to his repertoire is the sound of a rabbit. Walter Glenn Yates is the new manager of Sears and Roebuck in Durham. Temple Mills has inherited the Pine State Creamery from her one and only beau. She is now spending her time milking cows. Hattie Jo Bryson is working in her modern office because of her interest in pleasing her boss. She is now secretary of Sears' garage. Anne Stone has given up her working after operating a beauty salon for nine years to take care of her husband and their little ones. Hubert Hatcher has graduated from college after studying agriculture for four years. He is now living on a cattle ranch and is a very successful pattleman. Marlene Price has never given up her childhood ambition and is still trying to get to Alapema.

Vernon Thompson is working in a nearby Service Station. He has chosen Carolyn Hills as his life companion. Carolyn is living in the home of her dreams where she is kept busy by her little ones. Doris Yates, who enjoyed singing, even in high school, has continued her study of voice and is now appearing with the Metropolitan Opera Company. Jennie Collins is secretary for a prominent business man in South Carolina. Leo Rhodes is representing our class in the professional sports world. Leo is on the Chicago football squad. Most of us, Mrs. Yates, are settled in our respective notches, happily inconspicuous. You and all our other teachers have guided us in more than the basic school work. Your in- terest and assistance will always be deeply appreciated by each one of us. Sincerely, Marilyn Broadwell 16
