Three Wildcat wrestlers qualify for state tournament With a season record of nine wins and five losses, and a conference record of four wins and four losses, the Wildcat wrestlers battled to a fifth place finish in the tough Northern Conference. The fifth place league finish was indicative of the strength of the conference as seven conference wrestlers were in the finals of the state meet. A .500 conference record came as a result ofthe 24-20 win over the always tough Sterling Tigers in the final match of the season. With the momentum from the Sterling match, the Wildcats entered the district meet and placed five wrestlers in the championship round. Disaster struck the squad and only Marc Tidquist, Marty Weber and Tim Fleed came through to win berths in the state matches. Top left: Marty Weber quickly sticks his Fort Collins opponent and proves why he was the outstanding wrestler for the Cats this season. Top center: Wildcat Nyal Torrez picks up his man in preparation for a takedown. Torrez saw only limited action as a varsity wrestler this year and should have two great years of action remaining. Top right: Central's Mike Greenfield moves his Poudre opponent into a pinning position. Greenfield was one of Central's leading wrestlers with a 14-8-1 record for the season. Left center: Marc Tidquist tops his man to take another victory for the Wildcats. Tidquist was one of the top three wrestlers who went to State for the Cats this season.
