The Famous Final Scene Think in terms of bridges burned Think of seasons that must end I See the rivers rise and fall I They will rise and fall again I Everything must have an end Like an ocean to a shore Like a river to a stream I Like a river to a stream l It’s the famous final scene And how you tried to make it work Did you really think it could How you tried to make it last Did you really think it would Like a guest who stayed too long Now it’s finally time to leave Yes, it’s finally time to leave Take it calmly and serene It’s the famous final scene It’s been coming on so long You were just the last to know It’s been a long time since you’ve smiled Seems like oh so long ago Now the stage has all been set And the nights are growing cold Soon the winter will be here And there’s no one warm to hold Now the lines have all been read f And you knew them all by heart I Now you move toward the door Here it comes the hardest part Try the handle of the road Feeling different feeling strange This can never be arranged As the light fades from the screen From the famous last scene a Table ef Contents Starring Cast 17 Producers and Directors 97 The Stage Hands 121 The Good, The Bad, and The Outrageous 135 Stepping Out in Style 175 Intermission 193 Greater Lovell Regional =3 5 UOJjdE I I j v .1A Ivro f L J L ■ 1 Hjk ii r |4 If 4 la ' : j L - . Just keep it under 10 minutes, my fans are waiting ln -Vokie: O K. Pam, some people say that you are all looks and no brains. How do you feel? Pam: Well, ever since that article in the Enquirer came out, everyone seems to think that. It ' s not true. I do have some brains. ln -Vokie: Is it true that in you last film they didn ' t want you to play the lead because you weren ' t pretty enough? Pam: Yes, but my inner beauty that I developed through the cosmo and my own personal aura allowed me to portray the lead role. ln -Vokie: Pam, they say that beauty is only skin deep. How do you feel? Pam: Well, they wanted me to sing the song alone but I thought we should let everyone else sing too. ' ln -Vokie: That was very thoughtful of you. Pam, heard you like to keep your personal life private, do you find this hard? Pam: Well, my personal life is very important to me, so I try to keep it private. Besides, the world would be shocked if they found out some of the things that go on in my life! ln -Vokie: Well, thanks for taking the time to give us this in-depth J look into Pam: the singer, actress, and really nice person. r— ‘ Pam: Well, my mother said I should. Pam: Well, my mother said that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so I always try to be positive. I always read my horoscope and try to dress for the day. In -Vokie: You ' re also a highly regarded singer. How do you feel about your part in U S. A. for Africa? 17 In Aiemcriam Pat was a true vokie in every sense of the word, he loved the electrical trade and had a difficult time getting psyched for academic classes. In shop Patrick completed each and every task with the skill and expertise of an ex- perienced electrician. He truly loved working with his hands. He could hardly wait to go to work after graduation and eventually start his own business. His dream was never realized as he was taken from us on March 24, 1985, the result of a tragic auto accident. Liz Saucier 92 93 Looking back at the past year there were many wonderful, entertaining, heartbreaking and interesting stories to be told. Topping the news were abortion pros and cons. Ethiopia became big news this year with the strive to stop world hunger. Many people have pulled together to aid in this world-wide horror. John DeLorean was found innocent on all charges brought against him in the huge co- caine scandal. Baby Fae brought about scien- tific breakthroughs and controversy as doctors transplanted a baboon ' s heart to replace Fae ' s non-working heart. Unfortunately, she didn ' t survive. For the first time a woman was chosen to run for vice-president this year. Walter Mondale chose Geraldine Ferraro as his run- ning mate. Too bad for Gerry and Fritz that Ronnie came up big this year sweeping all of the states in the election except one. In the athletic department, Superbowl XIX was a super blowout as Joe Montana and the powerful 49er ' s rolled over the Miami Dolphins. There was also the coming of age for a twenty-two year old hero who traded in his eagle wings for $7m. General ' s job when Doug Flutie signed with the USFL. Topping the sports scene of course had to be the Los Angeles summer Olympics where the U.S.A. athletes proved not only are We talented but we ' re also a very classy group of people. In music news, the unbelievable comeback of Tina Turner turned everybody ' s head. Of course Bruce Springsteen made his presence known with his patriotic album Bom in the U.S.A. Popular newcomers to the music scene this year were Prince and Cyndi Lauper, whose 1 album set an unprecendented record of 5 singles released from a debut album. Producers and Directors ln -Vokie: But, Jan, with your talent you appear to be a natural You know your music, you know your ar- tists and you ' re a natural in front of the camera. ' ' Jan: Well, I owe it all to my Art teaching career. ln -Vokie: How ' s that? Jan: Well, for 10 years I ' ve worked in the Art Room at Greater Lowell Regional School When I started here I was a real ' Nerd ' . I didn ' t like music at all. ”ln -Vokie: What changed you from Nerd to V.J., Jan? Jan: It ' s the fumes from all the paint and glue in the Art Room I suddenly started to like music, I was happy all the time. ln -Vokie: So you attribute a lot of your VJ ability to the fumes? Jan: No question, it made me a new person. The only drawback has been my vision. ln -Vokie: Your vision? Jan: “Yes, you ' ll notice these coke bottles I wear for glasses. I never wore them before I started working at Greater Lowell. I think the fumes have affected my vision. ln -Vokie: Well, I guess there ' s always a price to pay for fame and fortune. Jan: You ' re right. This problem of being half blind is a small one to pay, to be a famous V.J. Got to run now, see you. ln -Vokie: Bye Jan! Thanks. Hey, look out for that point can on the floor, Jan. OH, NO, what a mess! Jan: Don ' t worry, it ' ll sink into the rug and the fumes will do us all good. Bye, Now. 97 In Memcrium In memorium we dedicate this book to the late Regional School Committee member Daniel P. Kane. Mr. Kane, 1 who served this school district for 14 years as a representative from the city of Lowell, was perhaps as close to the students and faculty as any elected official this district has seen or possibly ever will. His unique quality of generating a constant open line of communication and concern with all segments of this district gave him the insight and compassion to champion those causes which have made his legacy so rich with accomplishments. Because of this attitude, Mr. Kane helped mold many of the policies and principles upon which this district has grown and prospered. His interest in the athletic programs, facility development and extra curricular activities was perhaps his strongest area of support. It was certainly no surprise to see Mr. Kane at the Gryphon ' s football game the week before he passed away. His dedication and service to this school district will never be forgotten. .zzzzzzzzz • • • • : • • •• • • • • • ••? ???????????? ! - ! In addition to this outstanding academic recognition, you should also be extremely proud of your contributions as a class to the local community, to the school, and especially to each other. As you pursue your various areas of vocational expectations, you should be aware that you are entering an economic market in the New England area that reflects an explosion of technological change, capital proliferation, and individual opportunity that has rarely existed in this country in the last 25 years. No longer will your specialized skills carry you far into the economic future. Today ' s graduate must be prepared for a lifetime of learning. It is no longer so important how you start in today ' s society, but how you finish. Most of you have been able to secure employment positions after graduation due to the mastery of your various vocational skills. It is, however, most important to recognize that your language and communication skills, your study habits, your mathematics aptitude, and your science background will be needed in order for you to compete throughout the balance of your economic life. Please do not allow these abilities to be neglected. Continue to improve your vocational skills, but at the same time, continue to nurture all the skills that you have taken with you from this fine school. The Class of 1985 has left a legacy to the Greater Lowell Regional School District and Community. The Vocational Industrial Clubs of America chapter at the school produced some of the most highly skilled competitors from the New England area since the organization was founded several years ago. Athletic successes in the Commonwealth Athletic Conference produced a competitive spirit without neglecting the primary importance of sportsmanship. In addition to the major achievements, let us not forget all of those day to day rewards that you provided to the citizens from the Regional School District. Community projects such as Project HOTEL, the annual Christmas Fair, the Spring and Fall Blood Drives, the Toys for Tots campaign, and the elderly meals program represent some of the day to day activities that many of you simply assume are part of your education, without knowing the joy and satisfaction that you have given to the children, elderly and community leaders of the district. I wish you much success and I am confident that you will use your years at the Greater Lowell Regional Vocational Technical School to become a positive force in this community in the years to come. •••— • ••• •••• ©••• ® •••• •••.. ’ •••-■ © •••• § •••• « ••••• ? ••••• © •••• •••- Sheila Herbert — Ass ' t. In her repertoire, Cathy sang some of her old favorites such as: ' ' 99 Bottles of Beer on the Wall, Yankee Doodle, Tammy, Just a Gigolo, and Ain ' t Nothing but a Hound Dog. After the concert the reasonant toned Howe lass stopped by the ”ln -Vokie Office for a brief interview. ln -Vokie: OK, Cathy, tell us what brought you to Greater Lowell? Cathy: At one time in my life, I was a teacher. ln -Vokie: OH! Cathy: Yes, I not only taught Home Arts, but I was also in charge of the Senior Class. ln -Vokie: Really? Cathy: Yes, but I found although I enjoyed the students and teaching, the job offered no challenge and left me with too much time on my hands. It seemed I was always looking for something to do Maybe if I had worked at a bigger school there might have been more work. ln -Vokie: So you left teaching for show business. Cathy: Well, teaching and show business are so similar I feel like I never left teaching. ln”-Vokie: Any regrets? Cathy: My only regret is I miss the feeling I used to get every June. ”ln -Vokie: What is that, Cathy? Cathy: Well, being in charge of the Senior Class, I always felt so young I felt like I was graduating from High School every year of my life and I felt like I was going to the Prom every year. It was wonderful! ln -Vokie: Well, thank you Cathy for taking these few moments to talk with us. 121 Senior Class Cfficers Deborah Grant — Sec., Jai Anglin — Treas., Pam Healy — Pres., Cathy Brit ton — Vice Pres. !2 23 A- Day tc Demember ••• Junior Class Cff leers 126 Freshman Class Officers Row 1: Michelle Castrios — Treas., Traci Erickson — Sec. Boom Boom: No, that ' s Bruce Springsteen, not me, HaHaHa! Good joke, huh? ”ln -Vokie: Right, Boom Boom. Now tell us about how you got started as a school psychologist breakdancer. Boom Boom: Well, it all started back when I worked here at Greater Lowell. As the swim coach, I had to ride the bus with the kids to swim meets. The kids would always play music in their Boom Boxes thinking that it bothered me. Little did they know that at night I was taking breakdance lessons at the local )oy of Movement Dance Studio. You should have seen their faces the day I did the moonwalk down the diving board and then did a triple somersault into the pool. ln -Vokie: Pretty impressive. Boom Boom. Boom Boom: Thanks, but really I handled the fame well. I was offered a contract with Ringling Bros. Circus for div- ing into a pail of water. That was good work, but a little tough on the head, so I decided to return to just being a cool, jive, breakdancing psychologist. ln -Vokie: Well, thanks Boom Boom, it ' s been a real pleasure. Boom Boom: Hey, anytime. I ' m a mod guy. I know what a thrill it is to talk to me I talk to myself all the time.” ”ln -Vokie: O.K. Boom Boom. Intermission of the big reasons Greater Lowell runs so smoothly is because Chief Engineer Bob Redding and his capable staff are always ' on top of every problem in the school. Whether it ' s a leaky pipe, a flooded room or a cracked wall. Bob and his crew are always there with an answer and a cure to the problem. It is our luck to have Bob and several of the crew in our office today for an ex- clusive ln -Vokie interview. ln -Vokie: Hi Bob: Not us ln -Vokie: What ' s Up? Bob: The ceiling, we hope. ln -Vokie: Seriously gang, your reputation as troubleshooters in this building is famous. How do you do it? Tracey: One thing we do well is roam around the halls and check everything out. We make a habit of doing this daily. ln -Vokie: Tracey, how come you carry a basketball wherever you go? ln -Vokie: Why do you carry a hockey stick, Val? Val: Actually I prefer to call it my speed wrench, not a hockey stick. If something doesn ' t work or won ' t move, one good whack and 9 times out of 10 I ' ve persuaded the part to move or work again. ln -Vokie: Well gang, thanks for the in-depth look at our school ' s crack team of troubleshooters. Gang: Just call us the Voke-Busters. Tracey: There are basically two reasons for this. The first is to plug up leaks in the pipes, and the second is to dribble the ball loudly to wake up Bob. He ' s always nodding off. ln -Vokie: Why the hard hat Bob? Bob: As David Byrne of the Falkig Heads says about his big suit, why not! Actually, if you worked with this staff you ' d wear a hard hat too. They are constantly dropping tools or dropping grates all over the place. 193 TOUPIN BROTHERS CONSTRUCTION RENOVATIONS New offices built, dock boards and door sealers installed and forming of concrete bases for machinery. MA 01851 Wright, Katherine L. 315 Lincoln St. Lowell, MA 01852 215 Another year has ended and with it the approach of the Famous Final Scene for another class of seniors. But rather than an ending it is more like a beginning. Our graduates are entering a new stage in their lives, one that they may pursue for the rest of their lives. I wish them the best of luck in making all the right decisions. I ' d like to take this time to thank the faculty, staff and administration for all their help and support throughout the year. Also I would like to thank my staff for their assistance in putting together this yearbook. And last, but definitely not least, I want to thank Tracey and Val for getting me through the rough days, for the laughs and the love. I hope you never change. Best of Luck to All of You, Janet Cunningham The Famous Final Scene A if Think in terms of bridges burned Think of seasons that must end See the rivers rise and fall They will rise and fall again Everything must have an end Like an ocean to a shore f Like a river to a stream | Like a river to a stream l It’s the famous final scene And how you tried to make it work Did you really think it could How you tried to make it last Did you really think it would Like a guest who stayed too long Now it’s finally time to leave Yes, it’s finally time to leave Take it calmly and serene It’s the famous final scene! It’s been coming on so long You were just the last to know It’s been a long time since you’ve smiled Seems like oh so long ago Now the stage has all been set And the nights are growing cold Soon the winter will be here And there’s no one warm to hold Now the lines have all been read f And you knew them all by heart I Now you move toward the door Here it comes the hardest part Try the handle of the road Feeling different feeling strange This can never be arranged As the light fades from the screen From the famous last scene
