VICA In February, we hosted the District V. Regional Competition. Students competed in written and performance tests against each other in their trade areas. In each trade area, the three winners receive, in order of their performance, gold, silver, or bronze medals and the opportunity to represent Greater Lowell Regional in the State District or the State Skill Olympics, which this year was held on May 2nd and 3rd at Shawsheen Valley Regional Vocational School in Billerica. As a result of the State wide competition, the greater Lowell Regional School placed 50% of its students in the top six of all competition entered. Greater Lowell won 7 first places, 6 second places and 6 third places. Eleven other students also placed in the top six. All total, Greater Lowell Regional won 30 awards - 21 more than last year. The following Greater Lowell students were medal winners in the State competition. FIRST PLACE WINNERS: Leonard Carter - Plumbing Reggie Dove - Masonry Donna Klein - Prepared Speech Marc Morin - Sheet Metal Vivian Rois - Cosmetology Theresa Corey - Electro-Mechanical Drafting Roger Hamilton - Upholstery SECOND PLACE WINNERS: Dennis Jeffrey - Metal Fabrication John Frechette - Welding Roger Beauchesne - Upholstery John St. Peter - Sheet Metal Laurie Chattley - Electro-Mechanical Drafting Norma Mena - Cosmetology Ronald Cloutier - Air Conditioning THIRD PLACE WINNERS: Leo Marquis - Metal Fabrication Ray McCann - Cabinetmaking Steve Hamelin - Carpentry Lorraine Boutin - Electro-Mechanical Drafting Steve Gauthier - Machine Drafting Mary Jo Hudzik - Upholstery PLACING WITHIN THE TOP SIX WERE: I William Caldwell - Air Cooled Gas Engines Brian Hogan - Air Cooled Gas Engines David Gibson - Architectural Drafting , David Sullivan - Architectural Drafting Joan Pare - Cabinetmaking Cathy Ferreira - Cabinetmaking Diana Duquette - Cosmetology Sue Pellerin - Cosmetology Ray Gauthier - Masonry Robert Montbleau - Machine Drafting M- Paul Duquette - Masonry In June, 1980, the following students participated in the National VICA Skill Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia: Lenny Carter - Gold Medal - Plumbing Reggie Dove - 5th place - Masonry Donna Klein - 7th place - Prepared Speech
