Soccer offers the beginner the opportunity to become a good soccer player by playing and ob- serving those who know the sport. The pur- pose is teamwork through indivi- dual effort. It is played by more people internati- onally than any other sport. Here at the Voke, the J.V. Soccer team provides a way to the learning experi- ence of soccer. ! The Spikers A small group of dedicated players helped launch the first Volley- ball Team at the Voke this past Fall. Most of the season was spent improving and practicing skills. The one game played against an outside team found our players chalking up a victory. We look forward to expanding our schedule next year and,, even more important, continuing to have fun. . I |p Challenge of Strength Weight lifting (training) is a sport which demands dedication, hard physical work and pain. The benefits are realized quickly; muscular weight gain, stronger joints and muscles, muscular endurance and self-confidence. However, none of the above are possible unless the weight training is combined with the proper rest and proper high protein diet. Here at the Voke, Coach John Payelian has been successful in conducting afternoon weight training sessions three days a week. The Gryphonettes . . a bevy of beauties! We are a dozen in number, unending in enthusiasm, abounding in energy, able to leap into action at a toss of the coin, or a toss of the basketball. Advisor Colleen Newell 1. Linda Touzin 2. Robin Bien- venue 120 4 Faculty and Administration Superintendent’s message High school years are marked by many milestones. Your first day in a new school, your first date, your first time driving a car and. now, your first time on your own as a graduate of the finest technical school in the Nation and. hopefully, your first real job as a tradesperson. Just think of how you have changed and grown in the richness of these new first-time ' ' experiences. The novelty of life has an accelerated pace during your school days and the lessons you have learned in living with one another will probably prove them- selves more valuable than all the theory you studied and all the skill you built in your systematic pursuit of a technical education Learning to get along with your peers and your bosses is the surest way to find some degree of happiness and job satisfaction in a world filled with disappointment and frustration The funny thing is that you don ' t learn this in the media you study or in lectures during class You learn this only by experiencing for yourself what it is like to care for people besides yourself in the giving and taking from the people around you Greater Lowell Regional was an opportunity for each of you to become part of a large and vibrant organization You made ac- quaintances. friends and enemies, and learned or failed to learn about life in a microcosm of the outside world you are now join- ing You made your mistakes and reveled in your accomplish- ments Greater Lowell Regional has been a testing ground for living and now it is time for you to take your place among your peers in business and in industry Only time will tell if what you learned is of any value in personal terms You may have de- veloped all the skills, you may understand all the theory, but 50 years from now, I hope you wili reflect on your days as G.L.R.V.T S. and realize where you learned to take responsibility for your own actions and to get along with all kinds of people William J. The Distri- butive Education Clubs of America support the idea that the total process of education does not take place in the classroom alone and real learning is an extension of the classroom. The D.E.C.A. Competitive Events program provides students with the opportunity and incentive to go beyond the classroom and earn awards and recog- nition for themselves, their family and their school. Each year fund raising dances, raffles, and special promotions help finance our competitive activi- ties on the local, state and national levels. Dollars And Sense 1. Rick Carlson, 2. One could say the spirit of “Voke adds life” was born during a brainstorming session held one sum- mer’s day in Ms. LaRock’s handbuilt teepee. From there, the staff has presented a slide show to the seniors, attended workshops, silkscreened t-shirts, made T.V. commercials and developed an overall spirit of enthusiasm never to be forgotten by the class of 79 Our success is due to the enthusiasm generated by our staff; an aggressive, assertive, power-packed group of students with a die-hard attitude. Chorus and Drama Club, under the direction of Mrs. Sisson, is a club consisting of very dedicated and talented students whose participation has made their performances very enjoyable to the public. On many occasions the Chorus and Drama Clubs worked hand-in-hand doing musicals, radio hours, plays, assemblies and pep rallies to boost the spirits of the students in our school. Every year that passes we have to say good bye to our senior members; we will miss them, but they will always have the memories and friends they have gained through membership in our club. The bands perform twice yearly: once in the Christmas Concert and at the Spring Concert. Many times during the year our bands are called upon to do performances at the Burlington Mall and at other schools. Once every year we go to Fort Devens to be evaluated by professional musicians and we always come back with many compliments. The Senior force 1. Karen Maloof, President 2 Leanne Power, Vice-President 3. Kim Tenczar, Secretary 4. Lili Golden, Treasurer Each year the school classes gain momentum. This year’s Junior Class is just such a product of this momentum of spirit and youth. With the election of some vibrant students as class officers, the Junior Class sponsors several fund raising events such as a Thanksgiving Turkey Raffle and a Holiday Movie Day. Our Christmas project is the sale of postcards that are designed by David Rivard, and printed by the students. A Junior Class trip is planned to Washing- ton, D.C. at the end of the year. Working in cooperation with other club activities and classes, fund raisers are planned. These include movies, flea markets, rock concerts and tootsie pop days. The big events being planned this year are a Spring Carnival and a class trip to Florida. Senior Planning Committee Student Council The purpose of the Student Council is to represent the student body in promoting better understanding between the students, faculty and administration. We serve the community by sponsoring “toys for tots” and the canned food drive for families in need. Other activities include running the concession stand at football games, having student exchange days with other vocat- ional schools, and participating in the Youth Advisory Councils of Massachusetts. The television performance club had its beginning because of a need to develop on-air talent for W.O.R.K. News Center. With extensive closed cir- cuit studio experience in planning and presenting educational and commercial material, this organi- zation concentrates itself on a high level of profes- sionalism, geared for students interested in broad- casting. Stand By To Roll Tape The Hams The Amateur Radio Club was . founded by Frank Blanchette in the early spring of 1978 for the pur- pose of getting students to enjoy Amateur Radio as a hobby. Morse code and technical information must be studied in order to pass the exam necessary for obtaining a license from the F.C.C.. Some projects that Hams are involved in are: teletypewriter com- munications, mobile communications using club “repeater” stations, and communicating via “satel- lite bounce”. We hope that this club will prosper with time and result in a GLRVTS Alumni Amateur Radio Club. left to right: Dan Smith Larry Garneau Jimmy Katsourides Jim Fieles Carlos Rivera Rui Medina Shawn O ' Connell Billy Surprenant Dave Mercier Dave Lopes Steve Kolacz Randy Jenkins Dave Courtois Roger Lachapelle David King Dennis MacConnell Joe Morin Kneeling Peter Milinopolous Frank Blanchette 159 MCKITTRICK HARDWARE CO. 60 Fletcher Street Lowell, Massachusettes 01852 Hardware Mill Supplies COLLINS OFFICE EQUIPMENT CO. 788 Gorham Street Lowell, Massachusetts 01852 Sales-Service-Rentals on all major brands of typewriters, photocopiers, calculators and office furniture.
