GREATER LOWELL REGIONAL VOCATIONAL TECHNICAL HIGH SCHOOL TYNGSBORO, MASSACHUSETTS 1977 MEMORIES ...LIKE THE CORNERS OF MY MIND, 3 Smiles we gave to one another, of the way we were. 4 Could it be that life was oh, so simple then? or has time rewritten every line? 5 6 8 9 10 12 - 13 THE WAY WE WERE . . . Dedication Education does not mean teaching people what they do not know ... It is a painful, continual and difficult work to be done by warning, by precept, and by praise; but above all by example. Ruskin Certainly an example of a man dedicated to providing quality education is our own Superintendent- Director William Collins. Mr. Collins shows a keen interest in everything pertaining to our school. He is ever- ready to assist members of the staff and student body in problems that are encountered. His supervision is inspirational to us all. Indeed, Mr. Collins enhances the stature of Greater Lowell Regional by instilling the seeds of thought into the impressionable minds of those who know him. Just as we salute the class of 1977, we salute you, Mr. Collins, on your first year as Superintendent-Director. Like our 1977 graduates, our hope is that you have only just begun. COLLINS 1976-77 “In a time often characterized by troubled youth, uncertain of their future and unsure of what career path to follow, understanding where you are going and how you will support yourself is a most important step in knowing who you really are. For most of your life, people have been leading you, telling you what is good for you, making an effort to help you have a better life than the one they experienced; but often times this is misunderstood and interpreted as rejection. It is no wonder that some young people often feel so badly about themselves since the negative is often emphasized by their parents, relatives, teachers and authorities. Unable to feel good about anything they do, they give up trying to improve or give up altogether. Everyone sometimes sees the important people in their lives as asking them to do things that they themselves won ' t or can ' t accomplish. It ' s usually because of concern for how things should be that demands are placed on you. You have lived these past years in an ideal place, a place where perfection is sought but seldom attained. Then suddenly, upon graduation, you are hurled into a different life. The world of “don ' t quickly changes into the world of “do and the problem of “what to do replaces the cries of what not to do by your parents, teachers and others. You suddenly find many people that make more mistakes in a day than you made in your twelve years of school, and eventually you find you are not so bad after all! So don ' t give up. You already know you ' re a mechanic, carpenter, hairdresser, commercial artist, electrician, baker, cook, plumber, printer or nurse ' s aide . . . You are a highly skilled person that knows where you ' re going and how to finance your goals and dreams. You ' re one of the best trained technicians in your age group. You ' re more employable than most of your counterparts. So go out into the world of work prepared to use your education to continue learning. 48 ADMINISTRATION AND FACULTY William J. Collins Superintendent — Director 50 In Memoriam Who among our family, at this in- stitution, has not been diminished by the death of “Charlie Conlon. For over thirty years he educated the tra- despeople of our community. His en- tire professional life was involved in helping the vocational student pursue his goals. For the major part of his career, he worked in the particular area of education that was considered the poor sister , by his community and his fellow educators. He devoted his life to an area that many people pre- tended did not exist, until it became vogue to be a vocational educator dur- ing the last few years. He and his colleagues, many times, worked in the face of adversity to bring a special education to special people. He be- lieved in this form of education and made it work. Because of this, his life was a suc- cess. Because everyone loved him, his life was even more successful. Charles P. Conlon Guess who holds thee? Death! I said. But there the silver answer rang — Not Death but Love. Elizabeth Barrett Browning 51 Greater Lowell Regional School lames C. Dadoly Chairman Dunstable Edward ). Bishop, )r. Tragically, this is all too frequently untrue. But, we at the Regional School do honestly work together to give our students the very best academic education and vocational training possible. That is why this year we present a yearbook which may more accurately be called, our family portrait. We hope that you will share with us in our family album those highlights and movements which meant so much to us during this year. 57 George Abodeely Guidance Faculty Ronald Barnfield Power Mechanics Thomas Adie Printing William Alberghene Albert Barsamian Cluster Chairman, Manufacturing Special Needs Barry Adler Special Needs Joseph Allard John Begley Cluster Chairman, Business Tech Electricity Ernest Archambault Special Needs • 58 «• Ann Marie Buczek Math Mary Burns Business Tech Nelson Burns Administrative Assistant to the Superintendent — Director Robert Bellavance Sheet Metal Charlene Boisvert Distributive Education Edward Boisvert Auto Mechanics Frank Boyle Electricity Nancy Brousseau Special Needs Nancy Brumagin Child Care 59 William Burns Language Arts Thomas Casper Physical Education Kerry Cavallaro Language Arts Henry Camacho Electronics James Cassin Social Studies Lorraine Christman Upholstery Nancy Carey Language Arts Peter Coffin Food Trades 60 Joyce Collins Child Care Harry Donovan Guidance William Cooke Math Mary Ann Coravos Language Arts ' -h£ Marion Connors Health Assistant Ronald Desjardins Painting Decorating Barbara Dooley Guidance Kathleen Conole Social Studies Joanne Duggan Language Arts 61 Gabriel Falcon Auto Mechanics Robert Fedorchuk Auto Body James Foley Physical Education Kenneth Foley Special Needs Michael Foster Special Needs Bernadette Fowkes Special Needs Vincent Franco Welding Bowers Fuller Machine Shop Theresa Furlong Health Exploratory 62 John Gallagher Drafting Thomas Gallagher Social Studies Robert Ganem Director, Special Needs Walter Gacek Science Peter Gaieski Auto Mechanics Joan Gallagher Language Arts Linda Gardner Math Janet Georges Fashion Design Mabel Gibson F3ome Arts 63 Elaine Gomes Math Paul Gomes Science Nicholas Goumas Music Roland Guthrie Physical Education Carol Haberman Child Care Frank Hanchett Guidance George Harrington Carpentry Francis Heslin Special Needs Charles Hewitt Auto Mechanics 64 Nancy Hicks Business Technology Charles Hillman Social Studies Frances Hogan L.P.N. And, judging from our increasing deposits and business activity, our customers share our confidence that 1977 will be even better. During 1 976, deposits grew by 1 0.6% and assets by 9.7% —to top a four-year asset growth of 146.8% since December 31, 1972. We also prepared ourselves, in 1976, to play an even greater role in 1 977. New services, such as residential mortgages, are now available. New employee training programs and more sophisti- cated computer programs will help every First Banker to help you more. And our participation in community revitalization programs in Lowell and in Chelmsford— including the proposed renovation of the historic Fiske home in Central Square, Chelmsford, plus new parking and drive-up teller facilities— will make them happier places to have a happy New Year in. Thanks, again, for your confidence in us.
