I CONSTRUCTING PRACTICAL projects in wood ship is included in junior trade achievements, O MECHANICAL DRAWING offers opportunity for in- dividual ideas in design and architecture. VCDCATIONAL TRAINING Offering courses of study in the depart- ment of Manual Arts is the Vocational Depart- ment of Latrobe High School. These courses give experience and edu- cation in all types of manual arts for those who desire to pursue a vocation in the field of manual labor after their graduation from high school. They also form a background for such careers as electrical engineering, me-chan- ics, carpentry or the like. Wood shop instructors teach the skills of carpentry. Machine shops render practical ex- perience to those interested in the field of mechanics. The shops provide a sound back- ground for a career in mechanical engineering. Gainful knowledge needed for a career in ele-c- trical engineering is learned in electric shops. Any one of the aforementioned three courses may be elected by junior boys in the Trade course. In the senior year, an advanced course is studied. In addition to these subjects, the Vocation- al Department instructs the boys in drafting and mechanical drawing. Each year entries from wood shop, machine shop, electric shop and drafting are sent to the annual Ford Motors Industrial competition. Locally, the Lions sponsor a contest open to all trade aspirants. Cash prizes and medals are awarded in each division. Gainful Knowledge Absorbed For Future Application
