Attendants Assist School Nurse By Caring For Students Needs For the convenience of the students, the health room was operated by eight girls during the past year, under the- supervision of the Latrobe district school nurse, Mrs. Florence Young. Health room attendants, who are usually girls anticipating the field of nursing or medi- cine, serving during the morning sessions in- cluded Iackie Dunlap, Patricia Macey, Clare Poerstel and Patricia Strickler. Elaine Marks, Anna Catherine Batsa, Agnes Dorko and Mar- garet Miller took charge of the room in the afternoon. In order to be admitted to the he-alth room, students were required to have health room permits, signed by their class teacher. Some duties performed by the girls were signing health room permits, bandaging cuts or bruises, treating mild burns and making ill students comfortable. However, they adminis- tered no internal medication. Mrs. Young, who is directly in charge, makes se-veral visits to the high school to ad- vise students concerning their allergies, a rash, or other defects. She assists with the annual physical examinations at Second Ward by giv- ing the eye and ear tests. Among her many duties, Mrs. Young is the nurse for the ele- mentary grades, as well as the secondary pupils. Eleven doctors, a nurse and eight health room attendants safeguard student health. I DR.
